goes.Ugg, cant decide, too many questions.

ok i know im probably annoying Mohawk and whiterabbit by now, but i just like to know as much as possible before i just go out and buy a bunch of stuff, so here goes,

before i start, ill give you an idea of what i like/want.

music-ok, about 60% of the time im listening to Kid Rock(or similat styles), which ill get to later, i listen to about 30% rap, and odds and endsfor the rest, baisiclly my cd rack looks like this, kid rock, eminem ludicris, ja rule, lynard skynard, zz top, C.C.R., matchbox 20, dave mathews band, Garth Brooks, limp bizkit, linkin park, red hot chili pepers, metallica, etc.

i want a speaker for the SQ over SPL, i want to feel the bass hit so hard in my favorite rock songs, that its like a cannon(you get the idea), i dont want to use a whole lot of room, at leats as little as possible.

ok,

1. lately ive been mulling over a few different subs to go with. 10W7, 12W7, 2 10 or 12 W3V.2, 2 12" Xtant X series. and im open for other ideas, but only from Kenwood, JL, maybe eclipse and rockford(maybe).

2. im about 99% sure for what i want, itll be sealed(W7's included)

3.about the W7's, i was told that the 10's are the only decent ones, and the bigger ones are sloppy(due to the large surround), opinions?

4.i wasnt sure about the W3's cause i have one now and it seems at mid volume, (250/1, stock HU-bass centered), it seems to bottom out or it sounds like the cone is flexing every now and then.

5. due to the mix of music styles i tend to stray away from bigger than a 10, but im willing to change my way of thinking.

6.about the Xtants, my friend has two of the Z series (10") and they sound awesome, hes got about 350 total goin to them from a 4 ch. amp

there are more question im sure, but thats all for now.

Regularjoe is on a distinguished road
I just put in a single 12" Eclipse Aluminum in a sealed box crossed over at 50hz via the deck controls. Running it off a Kicker 400.1 amp.

Hits nice and hard plus really goes low.

It is louder and sounds far far better than my last setup.
(2 - 12" Soundstream 12's sealed run off a 90x2 amp)

It is everything I wanted it to be and more.

I have it matched w/ Diamond M6 6.5" Components run off a Kicker 150.2 amp, plus I have Pioneer 4-way 6x9's in the rear deck run off the deck for fill.

It honestly rivals my home system . ....

I will be posting pics this weekend so you can see how it turned out.

pair of 10w3v2's off a jl 500/1 sealed will give you exactly that cannon feeling your looking for. guaranteed.

furthermore, anyone who told you the 12w7 is crap doesnt belong in autosounds. the 12w7 is the best caraudio woofer on teh market today. period.

w3v1's are ok, i suppose, but the new technology that are in the v2's, the improvement is insane. I wouldnt buy a v1 anything. but a w3v2? w6v2? w7? i wouldnt hesitate.......

due to your musical styles, i wouldnt go with any 10 but the w3v2, only 12's. 15's wont play high enough, and 10's (actually eclipse 10's too) wont play low enough. even the 10w3's might not play low enough, but will SLAM for rock music, unbelieveable. eclipse 10's get rediculous LFE tho, so you should get the range yoru looking for (not any tighter or looser than 12's, either)

about the xtants, i dunno, there wasnt really a question there

i have to reapeat tho, the 12w7 is by far the highest potential woofer you can get on teh market today, nothing else can come close (to be fair, mo, im TOLD the idmax version 3 whups it, but still no production or dumax proof!)

The JL craze begins again ..

For the kind of music you like and bass you're looking for. The audiomobile EVO-R would also be a very good choice. It's a very high impact woofer..plays quite low and has a very fast transient response..it tops the W3v.2 in pretty much all aspects except price ..

For the music type's you've described. an audiomobile EVO-R 12 in 1.3 cu.ft ported tuned to 28hz would be killer. ..the W3v2 setup would be insane too..just broadening your options

so you recommend ported over sealed? hmmm.

i dunno, say i get 2 W3V2's for example. i have one right now and it travels like crazy at moderate volumes, in a sealed enclosure. i dont want to immagine how it would be ported. also, i dont think the V2 is that much different than my regular W3 was.

Quote
due to your musical styles, i wouldnt go with any 10 but the w3v2, only 12's.
so youre saying a 12?

Quote
an audiomobile EVO-R 12
both of you?

ok, so 2 10s or 2 12s.

as for the Audiomobile EVO-R, where can i find them and/or info? how much do they run? any dealers?

im tryin to give up my hang-ups so any ideas are welcomed, i just want to get the system that will BEST suit my tastes. even if its not JL. im not that big of a "brand" type shopper, i just like their product line and know theyre very reputable.

Why only those subs..are you becoming one of the many JL audio zombies out there .. they are quite good subs no doubt..but there are subs that match it's quality and price. Like the IDQ V.2's the eclipse 8700 series. the Kicker Comp VR subs..(might not sound quite as good) the Audiomobile EVO's..the Digital Designs 2200 series(or 2000 it's late), Arc Audio subs, Diamond Audio M5's, the PPI C2's, Boston Acoustics rally series..

All in the same price range..all very formidable woofers and all small box woofers too..

then there's the Shiva's but they need room to breathe

shiva is a different animal.

and i only reccommend subs ive heard when i comment on their performance, cant reccommend any on that list other than 10w3v2's or idq, but version 1 ohly, or the eclipse 8700

eclipse wont give that cannon effect unless its a truck, and the idq's might be a good way to go, but wont match the output of the JL's on equal power.

im only reccommending the best subwoofer ive ever heard for the sound he desires. no more, no less.

and yes i am a JL fanatic ever since i heard Hyperballad on a sealed 12w7 playing off an arc amp. its beauty was incredible. VERY well justified calim to be THE best (at least agasint what ive heard )

www.audiomobileinc.com, its a factory direct deal only, as far as i know. if it isnt (prolly isnt by now) factory direct is easiest by far.

evo-R is the current DUMAX xmax king, as far as i know. dumax xmax king means it mechanically throws the farthest,. period. something like .08 mm more excursion than the brahma, the previous king. not the w7, not the eclipse ti, not the Gti has more excursion than the EVO-R.

a guy whom i speak with online bought one with the intentions of getting a second later down the line. he sais now he gets a headache after less than an hour of listening, and has a 400 watt amp only to power it.

how does it sound? www.caraudioforum.com, click on chat room, and look for a guy nick ITHURTZ. he can tell you all about it.

I had a pair of EVO-R 12's at one time.. each in 7.5 cubes ported, tuned to 47hz I broke 151 from the trunk of a civic with only 1100Wrms.. in 3.5 cubes ported tuned to 28hz I was still hitting mid 140's and they sound great. Not as good as my IDMAX''s sounded..but on par with the Eclipse alum 12's...they are a very good woofer...

The Eclipse 8700's would be louder than the W3V2's with the same power .. but the cones very midly distort at higher volumes. The JL's do as well..but they get louder before distortion sets in...

Rabbit..they are great subs..and at $200Us a piece or less online..thier a great value indeed...much better than the old W3's....

And your W7 you heard..was that off an Arc 2500?..that amp is the king of subwoofer amps for SQ..the slew rate is higher than most tube amps it's insane...

Pending enclosures as always..the 8700's have more SPL potential with equal power..they also have very very similar TS paramters to the new W3 D4's but have better power handling and most excursion..and a touch more distortion..ick

for SPL..or sound quality?.. the 10W3 would sound ever so slightly cleaner but won't extend as low. and won't be as loud. I have a pair of the 15" 8700's in my house and I'm hitting over 125db's at 1 meter at 20hz with 600Wrms. it's brutal..ports tuned to 18 tho..

for the 15's the eclipse kills the JL.. for the 12's and 10's that's where enclosure size come into play. the Eclipse love small ported boxes. the JL's shine in small sealed... I've come to one conclusion. Small box woofers will never have the right properties for that "perfect audiophile" sound. Even the W7 has it's limits in frequency response whereas big box woofers can have much flatter open air response..Small box woofers tend to really lose low end and rely on cabin gain to balance response (which is great in cars)...

That's why this spring I'm cutting up my rear deck and popping a pair of 10" subs free air...still looking for suitable subs tho..

ok, jdging from what you guys are saying, i should get 2 10 inch W3V2's or 2 10 inch EVO-R's. im also getting the idea that you think i should have them ported. thats fine, but just out of curiosity, why ported over sealed? and with how much volume?

ok, now, something else, i currently have a 10W3V.2 in a sealed box, w/ i think about .7-.75 cu.ft.,(the box is not stuffed with the stuffing material, incase that matters), powered by a JL 250/1 set as follows: Amp LP Filter;12db, 85Hz.........Bass Control;30Hz, +1db.

ok, now could you please explain what these are/mean/do? I have an idea but im not 100%. also, at moderate volume levels, run off the factory CD HU, on about half of the tracks on average, it sounds like the cone either flexes, or bottoms out. could you explain this?

to add on that, if (hypatheticlly) i would go with 2 10W3V.2's, with the same setting, ported, id would expect it to be worse, am i wrong?

moot point, mo, you quoted me then talked abotu 15's ill post a 10w3v2 vs a 8710 anyday, agasint your claim that the eclipses would be louder.

of course the 8715 would be louder than a 10w3!

but a 10w3v2 versus an 8710, like i claimed? jl would spank that eclipse up and down the lanes, given equal power. that was MY claim. and im sticking to it.

eternal, you can answer your own questions about what is best for you. I would not port the 10w3v2, and you say you alread have one. my question for you is, do you like the sound quality? if you do, then get another one! get 2 more, 3 more! keep addin on till you get teh volume level you want. you already have the quality you want.

you wanna try something different, or the w3v2 jsut ain cutting it for you, as far as sq? go for the idq, try an evo R, try a 12w7, find something new! but its based all on how you like your sounds.

i fell in love with the way my tempest sounded. but i needed more output than i was getting. just not enough for me. solution? buy three tempests why get a single 15 or an 18 that i know will be louder when I already like the way the tempest plays?

so between 10w3v2 and EVERYTHING else, you have to decide that yourself, based on NOTHING we can tell you here. if you decide in fact, you DO wanna get something new. thats when we cna step in here and see what we can do to make sure you get the woofer thats best for your musical tastes.

rabbit..the 15W3V2 and the Eclipse 15 87151.4 was the comparison..with the smaller woofers cone area might be a facot because Eclipse uses a 1" Surround..otherwise..they play lower and are amore sensitive woofer..and hancdle more power..in car..I can;t say..they "should be louder" and still sound good...but haven't had the chance to a/b them

15w3v2 doesnt exist.......

edit: forthermore, i make a claim about the 10w3v2, you tell me that 8700 will out SPL it with equal power. by definition, that claim agasint mine must be for a 10" woofer, otherwise the claim is out of the blue and thus moot. 15's never even played into this thread at all, exept my claim in the beginning that most liely they wont give him the sound he wants. the rest has been 10's and 12's. so 15's are right out. right out. ill admit, i havent seen the 2003 jl pricebook, but i have seen the 2002 JL pricebook. no mention of a 15w3v2. so unless its new for 2003 and thus not released yet, it doesnt exist.

but compare a 10w3v2 vs an 8710 for SPL, using the woofer i was talking about versus the series of woofer you made the claim against me about in the trial you told me your woofer would beat mine out by? ill crush you

ive only made claims about the 10w3v2. i dont like jl 12's at all (minus 12w7 of course ) you cant tell me that an 8700 series will kill jl, then compare the 8715 to a 10w3, then compare an 8715 to a 15w3, then ask me what comparison im making when im only refuting yoru claim to begin with that when i talk about the 10w3v2, you talk about the 8700's getting louder than w3v2 off same power. SQ and frequency response will never enter the picture. this is pure SPL. since i never spoke about the 15's, not ever, you cant make that claim that 8715 is louder than a w3v2 to myself without completely changing the subject, and thus straying from topic (i guess we are both guilty of that by now, huh.) however, i am SO confident in JL that I am willing to put up.

single 10w3v2 versus a single 87 series eclipse 10" woofer. you can define how much power we are allowed to give it, and my jl will outhit your eclipse woofer in pure SPL, to prove yoru claim above there is in fact not true

ill admit, i have no money in which to purchase the woofer even, but ill find a way! what do you say? even if this will take time, something that we wont worry abotu for a short while, are you willing to pit your eclipse versus my JL? your rules, my woofers, equal power. ill destroy you

Okay..the 8710 will definately play lower and has more SPL potential. But because of the size of the surround the JL might have it in the Same power SPL department. The JL also distorts much les at higher volumes. I know that the 8715 it louder and play much lower than the 15w3's. The 8712's also work very well ported unlike the JL 12w3's which get a little fluttery. For the 10's..I never used 10's..but I've heard many. Sorry for not making every point perfectly clear. A size-size comparison of the JL's vs the 8700's would be an awesome shootout for a mag to do ..the W7's are in their own league for car audio woofers..there's nothing else adequate to compare them to.. even the Brahma's don't cut it.. too much cone distortion...

I'll shut up now.
ok, now could you please explain what these are/mean/do? I have an idea but im not 100%. also, at moderate volume levels, run off the factory CD HU, on about half of the tracks on average, it sounds like the cone either flexes, or bottoms out. could you explain this?
when mo is ready to get whupped in SPL by a single 10w6v2, i got an earthquake amp rated for 255 @ 4 ohms @ 12.4 volts, ill pay shipping both ways, actually, we should make a bet on this. i I win, mowhawk pays shipping both ways....

remember mo, anytime in the future, you down to do a direct 10" woofer to woofer spl contest between w3v2 an 8700, lemme know. its on

rabbit..have a 10W3v.2 you can "borrow" I'll ask Mario..the local Eclipse dealer if I can borrow his 10" 8700 from his truck. wouldn't reeally work though unless it was an open field and not "in Car" test. Cause yours is a coupe and you have no trunk..Mines a sedan......this would definately be on tho if we lived even within 250miles..

ok i know im probably annoying Mohawk and whiterabbit by now, but i just like to know as much as possible before i just go out and buy a bunch of stuff, so here goes,

before i start, ill give you an idea of what i like/want.

music-ok, about 60% of the time im listening to Kid Rock(or similat styles), which ill get to later, i listen to about 30% rap, and odds and endsfor the rest, baisiclly my cd rack looks like this, kid rock, eminem ludicris, ja rule, lynard skynard, zz top, C.C.R., matchbox 20, dave mathews band, Garth Brooks, limp bizkit, linkin park, red hot chili pepers, metallica, etc.

i want a speaker for the SQ over SPL, i want to feel the bass hit so hard in my favorite rock songs, that its like a cannon(you get the idea), i dont want to use a whole lot of room, at leats as little as possible.

ok,

1. lately ive been mulling over a few different subs to go with.

Well of those the 12W7 would be a grat choice. They do not get sloppy unless they are in JL's reccomended specs High Output box..then they get stupid loud but a little sloppy. In a good sealed enclosure they sound incredible and hit hard. If you want just a good bass hit with kickdrums and not too loud I'd reccomend powering them off a 500-600 watt class a/b amp. This wa it's not too much for your electrical system and it's still plenty power to controll the cone and make it bump.

Cheers'
Mohawk
