easy "Bandpass" is another way of saying the box is "ported" it has the tube(s) that allow for the air to move in/out.. the alternative is called "acoustic suspension" or the box is sealed. it all depends on the type of speaker you are getting.. like for instance i have a polk db series 12" in a sealed Q logic box. the sub only requires a certain amount of room to breath.. im my case it was very little. like under a cubic foot, some people say bandpass is better, some say acoustic suspension is better.. but i like sealed boxes for subwoofers better. & i don't know the distance between the wheel wells off hand sorry!

bandpasss NOT the same as ported. THere are 3 types of boxes: sealed, ported, bandpass! All are different. Sealed isthe easiest to work with. No air can escape from the box. Ported involves using tubing to adjust the tuning frequency of the box. Bandpass is like a combination of ported and sealed. It involves sealing the side of the subwoofer with the cone, and porting the side of the subwoofer with the magnet. Bandpass is the most difficult to tune. I have a ported box right now, but am thinking of building a sealed to save space since sealed boxes need less air space. Personally I'd never use a bandpass beacuse they way they make the bass sound I dont like it.

well there are actually a bunch of different enclousure types. i did make a mistake, i always got "bandpass" confused with "bass reflex" i agree though bandpass and bass reflex are to boomy or muddy sounding to me. sealed boxes seem a lot more tighter & accurate. i also have a sealed home sub 2 active 10"s.. they share about 1 cubic foot, sounds awesome to me.

anyways learn about some of the different types of enclousures here!
