eclipse components
anybody heard them.......im thinkin bout doing my whole system in eclipse. i know there amps and alum. subs are good but don't think ive ever heard of anything about there components
I used to have Eclipse components in my old car. I was pushing 4 6.5's with a Kicker zr120 amp. They sounded very clear, I liked the highs and the crispness of the speaker. What I did not like however was the midbass.. This was a little over 4 years ago so thinkgs may have changed since then, If not I would also go with like a few 8's with your sub.. Just a thought

the 8701 components just look ummm too impressive which probably means too expensive, so i was thinkin the sc8362 components
total setup im thinkin
sc8362 components up front
amp to push them is a ea 2212
2 12" alum's in the back pushed by the 34230 amp

eclipse components sound nice, but are really comparable to infinity minus a harsh tweet. didnt like the midbass? what midbass? =B
seriously tho, for the money, JL whups them into the ground. IMO pointsource is the best eclipse series speaker. same sound as the component set, same SQ in a pointsource speaker, all in a much easier to install package.
would look slick in kickpanels, too.

Imo, if you are looking for SQ, I would strongly consider MB Quart's components. Either the psd or qm series. I don't have anywhere near the experience or expertise as some here, but I do have good ears and am a stickler for clarity and perfection. If you like bright treble and want SQ, I don't think anything is going to be better than the quarts.

the Eclipse's strongly lack midbass. If you cross them down to only 70hz they really distort the mids. Crossing them at 90-110hz seems to work best specially with an 18db/octave or steeper slope. I agree with Rabbit that the JL VR's for the money can't be beat. they are awesome. Hard hitting midbass..clean dynamic midrange. Tweeter is a tad laid back but at no loss in detail.
Also the new Viper Audio neo components are wicked. and a very easy install. Midbass hits plenty good. mids are much like the MB;s..very crisp and clear. the tweets are very good if a little bright. Definatly should be mounted off axis.
in the same price range too you might care to go to the zeb.com and look into the CDT components..their having a massive sale on them..

at such a low point, your midbass is prolly weaker than it could be. take my DD's for example. if i cross them at 75, they sound good still, just wont play as loud as id like. cross them at 90, and they get ***** loud. im told (and i wanna try this) if i cross them at 110, they get UNRULY in a car.
your midbass support should be failing as you lower the crossover point, or am i missing something?

it depends on the volume level...at lower volumes..the midbass is pretty strong with the rainbows..turning it up pretty loud though it can get downright muddy with some tracks. crossed at 90 it doesn't get any louder..just cleaner at higher volume levels..I don't see how raising the crossover point would affect SPL...unleess the woofer is playing multi-layered notes..like 70hz and 110hz at the same time..you can run them full range and just play sine waves..the SPL won't change above the x/o point....
Then again..having them cover notes too low can cause spikes and dips all over..so it's probably related

edit: unless you listen to your music when its playing slop, or mud, or clipping ;p then i dont have an argument agasint you that could hold ;p;p

Ahh okay..just keeping it cleaner as you crank it..my rainbows are like that..never have to go up 110hz though..but then again..my idea of cranking and other peoples really varies lol
not cleaner, just same cleanliness louder =B

For home audio I run a pair of 15" Eclipse 87151's getting 300Wrms each ..each sub is in 4.8cubes ported..tuning is at 19hz...and a *couch* Planet audio *cough* 3-way component set running off some older tube amps which are stable at 4ohm.. 75Wrms..it's dangerous to watch some DVD's with explosion scenes in my house..
