Having a Problem with Getting to the Stock Head Unit.. any tips?

On this step, mine looks a bit different. It's got the flip open door for the cup holder.

I can't pull that park back far enough to reach the screws in there. How can I do this? Spent about a hour trying to move it around to get close, but not working. Special kind of screw driver? Any tips will help. Thanks!

Nor did I. I just grabbed that center piece on either side and gave a yank -- it popped right out.

I removed the entire center console and put it in the back seat. That should free up enough room to get to the screws.

yeah i just recently installed a new hu, and removing those two scores accomplished nothing therefore it was a big waste of time, to remove the center console. just yank the botton panel off undo the other two screws and yank the hu panel on out/

For a clean, smooth installation, you should pull back the center consol, It's really hard to get to the two screws underneath the radio without mocing it back. The 2 screws behind the lighter do not have to be removed. First pull up the plastic piece that covers the e-brake and has the pockets in it. Second their are two screws on the bottom of the center console in the rear...remove those. Then their are two clips at the front of the console and finally 2 screws underneath the e-brake panel you pulled off. Once you remove those the center consol will slide back easily. It sounds complicated but it's quite easy. If you have any more questions, e-mail me.

I am not sure why you would have to remove the center console (emergency brake) tray just to install the head unit -- I didn't. I just popped out the 12V power panel (held on with 4 clips), and I had access to the two crews that hold the radio frame in place. It was a breeze after that. ok people posting please realize that he has a 2002 and there set-up is not the same as ours. i don't have experience with your car with pop up cup holder thing but like most said you should just unscrew the center cosol and slide it back out of the way. its nothing but a 2 minute deal to get things moving. then go after the screw that r underneath... if you have a dig cam. take some pics and add a new DIY for those with the new stlye center console.
