Ok this is for the major stereo gurus like my self here.

I've been thinking about this for awhile trying to figure out what would happen, without acutally wasting money on doing it. But lets see if I can get it answered here.

1) What would happen if I built a box to small for a sub???
ex. sub calls for .65 cub ft, I build a box for .35 cub ft?

2) What would happen if I built a box to small for a sub??
ex sub calls for .65 cub ft, I build a box for 2 cub ft??

Keep in mind that I deal mainly in sealed boxes, not ported or bandpass, or 4th 5th 6th order boxes. JUST SEALED.

So what do you guys would think would happen in these 2 different situations??????

Well bilding the enclosure smaller will over damp the sub. it will sound very "boomy" the cone will be much more prone to flexing. It will lose alot of it's low frequency extension and gaina few DB's in the upper bass range.

As for making an enclosure bigger. This can lead to loose sounding bass with much overhang...the sub will be more liekly to bottom out at higher power levels.

I would highly reccomend you download WinISD. Just runa search on google. you can plot graphs on many different subs and see how enclosure size affects response..

Edit. Also manufacturers reccomended sealed enclosure sizes are generally not optimal for sound quality. They generally offer a Q of .808 which is slightly boomy sounding. A good rule of thumb is to add 10% to the reccomended size for best SQ.

Just downloaded it, it is a helluva lot better than the Blaubox program I was using a while back
