If absolutly must get Sony, get the Mobile ES stuff, but even that stuff has sketchy performance. I had an ES CD receiver and it skipped over the smallest bumps, and this was in my old Sunbird w/ 55 series tires. I finally got rid of it. It played great if you didn't drive over any bumps, but we know all roads aren't smooth as baby bottoms.
if you get sony HU, make sure its one that you can use without CD's. i guarantee it will skipp. i know sony just made a new one that uses a harddrive. that one shows some promise.
the rest? its just more caraudio out there. if you like the sound of it, then why should you have to answer to any of us? it will recreate music, thats teh bottom line. even sony xplod woofers cna hang with the w0, EASY. sony just has a bad rap cause they dont have a good track record with fatigue failure.
90% install, 10% equip. if you can get a good deal on equip, spend all yoru time and money making sure its a good install, and you will have something that rivals 90% of the stuff that normal shops install. most of the time, they use prefab boxes anyways.
sony good? not really. but bad? hardly.

i have a full xplod system..
750 deck
3-way 6x9's
2-way 6.5's
tweeters from 'hot' ES components.
xplod amp
10" xplod sub
sounds pretty darn decent, if you ask me. for the price i paid, i got more than what you would get out of alot of top name models.
it sounds great with my custom enclosure that was built to the exact specs of my sub. (by me, of course!) sounds especially good with mainstream alternative and r&b.
vocals sound great with the tweets.

Xplode amp suck. That p.o.s. 760 watt amp blem my w0's and they weren't even being over powers with gain and every thing tight. I took that crap back the next day. I don't mind sony HU my sister has one that I would buy from her if i had the chance. Just don't get their amps. You'll regret it.

xplode amps suck? lol.. might be because you got an 'xplode' amp. maybe even one of those legacy knock-offs.
99.9% of all electrical mishaps are created by the user.
i have never had a problem with my amp PERIOD.
i mess up alot of crap, but one thing that i thought would go on me, didn't. many people have many opinions on sony and their xplod line-up. i have my opinions on it too.. as well as alpine, pioneer, clarion, kenwood...

i installed that exact same 760 watt somy amp in a 4 runner to run his stage (fanatic P) tweets are a bit harsh, but the midbass is insane! a VERY worthy investment, especially since he got everything on the best buy discount. sounds great.

I recently bought an Xpload XM-1600GSD amp for my subs. I have 10" infinitys and it sounds pretty good. I however think that the specifications that Sony lists for the amp are a lil' off. It claims that it puts out 600 watts rms at 2ohms. I don't think it is really putting out 600 watts to my subs, but it has all the power that I need or would want.
One problem that I have had with the amp is that when I turn my radio completely off ( my head unit can turn off completely
or turn off the music and keep the display, time, and what-not on) and then turn it back on my subs will pop. My over current indicator will light up and I have to turn my radio off again to get the subs to work. I guess this can be a big problem, but since i hardly ever turn my radio completely off it does not bother me too much.

ok, I work at best buy and let me tell you.. sony is a waste of your money. We get back more sony equipment than any other brand... people who have all sony stuff in their car, do you notice the tremendous amount of distortion when you turn up anything or when you turn on "D-Bass" on your head unit? You wouldn't believe the number of people that come back to me and complain because their sony head skips every time they shift. Sony is pretty looking but performance wise they can't come close to matching the clarity or power of a pioneer head unit or a rockford amp.. you can do much better than sony.
I have all Sony...and I have not had a single problem, except for the radio reception...which I'm sure is not Sony's fault...it must be the way I wired some stuff. Anyway, here's what I got.
HU: CDX-MP70
Speakers: XS-V1632 x4
Amp: ES XM-6001GXD
Subs: XS-L1246 x2
Capacitor: Monster brand....never really checked what model it was
This set up is so sweet when playing CDs....sounds very clear...plays really loud...bass hits very hard. I have no complaints.
