need pro input

I currently have a Rockford fosgate 800.2 amp. I have them running two 10"HE2 subs in a sealed enclosure. I'm not really happy with the bass quality of these subs. I gopt them for a good deal, and they were perfect for the amp since they are both 400 watts rms. I want to get new 12" subs to use with the 800.2 amp. I am willing to spend about $350. I listen to mostly rap, and I want something that is gonna sound better then the HE2's. Any input would be great. Thanks

edit: I just did a search for idmax subs and was wondering if 1 12"Id max sub will be louder then my two 10" off of the same amp, or will it be noticably more quiet. If it will sound diferent, how so?

1 idmax will blow your current setup away - i cant promise sound quality with the rockford amp but i will promise you it will be louder and the sq will be better than what you have now - now get a arc 1500d-r and a idmax and your in business - but a idmax is more than 350 ;o) - andy

I agree with mygirls01. If you went with a single 15" in a PROPERLY DESIGNED vented enclosure you'd really get hit hard. Two tens in a sealed box will give you tight punchy bass - but wouldn't hit the low notes in hip hop! Personally I have 2 12"s in a sealed box - they can't really go that low, but are perfect for my musical tastes (house and alternative rock).

Keep in mind that a subwoofer setup is only as good as the enclosure. You could have a $1000 dollar woofer sound like crap if it were to be installed in an ill-designed box. With a 15", you are probably looking at anywhere between 2.5 to 4 cubic feet of internal volume, and you can tune the vent pretty damn low and still have it sound tight, deep and blisssssful. Make sure you get your audio shop to build a proper enclosure for that specific woofer. If you stick it in any old box you WILL be disappointed.

Another option would be to build a new box for your tens. I think if you went for a larger, vented enclosure you'd be much happier with the results. Most car audio places can build custom boxes - definitely for less than your budget of $350. Switching from a sealed box to a vented one will definitely give you much deeper bass. You might be pleasantly surprised as to what two tens in a vented box can do...

At the suggestion of White Rabbit - I want to re-emphasize a point I made in my last post. Do not, I repeat do not buy a generic enclosure for your shiny new 15" woofer. I've seen so many cars with systems that sound like abolute garbage! Just this last weekend I went drag racing with my brother (he has a '97 Z28) and I saw a guy with a honda civic. He had two 12" JL Audio W6's (a somewhat expensive woofer) in a generic bandbass box. Holy crap did it sound like ****. Sure, it was LOUD - but it could only produce one-note bass and was VERY muddy.

You are better off getting the right box for your woofer and spending a little less on the woofer itself. I worked at a loudspeaker company for two years, and learned a heck of a lot when it comes to subwoofer design. Get the thiele/small parameters for your woofer (usually can be found on the company's website), and use them to desgin the box. If you lack the experience to do so, get a good car audio shop to do this for you. I always feel pity towards people that invest $1000+ on subwoofers alone and end up with absolutely terrible bass response. I think you will be very happy with a 15" in a vented enclosure.

The three varibles involved in designing a vented enclosure are the box volume, port length and port diameter. It is absolutely essential that these three variables be designed and built for your woofer. That's why I frown upon unloaded boxes for sale - the kind you see at future shop (or circuit city if you live in the U.S.). They almost guarantee bad bass...

My two cents - be wise and good luck with your new sub setup. I'll have pics of my system up later today - taking them with my digital camera this afternoon!
