Alternator Problems: Can anyone help?

My alternator was whining very badly and I took it to the dealership. They replaced it and it was under warranty, lucky for me. The only thing I can think of that would have caused this is my system, but its not all that powerful. Is there anything I can do, short of buying a high output alternator, that would prevent this from happening to my new alternator. Please let me know. Just in case it helps, I listed the amp specs below.

Kicker Impulse 5-channel
The interior speakers are running at 4 ohms.
40 x 4 @ 4ohms
plus
400 x 1 @ 2 ohms class D to sub
The sb channel is running at 2 ohms.

That sounds odd, your amp is Class D and only 400 watts so I don't know what to tell you. The alt could have been defective, if this one does the same thing upgrade to a high output one. How many miles on the car? How bad did the lights dim when the bass hit? If it was pretty bad you'll need a new high output alt.

The alternator itself was whining, LOUDLY. Also, the lights were not dimming at all. I have a 1 Farad Lightning Audio Cap connected to the amp. The cap has been installed since January '02 and there has been no dimming since then. The amp is 40 x 4 class a/b plus a 400 x 1 class D section for the sub. Anymore suggestions are welcome.

A class D amp shouldn't put no stain on the alt especially only 400watts. Your light didn't even dim. Maybe it was defective. From what I have been told Hondas have the worst alternators.

it's not that the alternator is bad or poorly made.. it does exactly what it is supposed to do; power the vehicle sufficiently.
