Front Speaker Installation?
Front Speaker Installation?
I've searched for this topic and didn't find a satisfactory answer yet.
Yesterday, I opened the front driver's side door and removed the factory speaker. I also did Brown Bread sound insulation -- what a mess!
Anyway, when it came time to add my Polk EX602 6.5 to the front door I ran into a bit of trouble. How exactly do I mount them? I have a universal bracket and a foam ring, which together should raise the speaker about 0.5-0.75" off the surface of the sheet metal. Nothing seems to fit properly.
Can somebody please advise (in detail) as to how to do the front speaker install. How many holes do I need to drill into the sheet metal and what needs to be screwed to what?
Also regarding the holes in the sheet metal, how can I prevent them from being a source of rust? Perhaps coating them in a globe of silicone?

I'm not sure of the depth on those speakers, but my Polk EX365s needed a 1/4" spacer then they fit fine. I got this at my near by circuit city. My Focals on the other end needed 3/4" spacers that I had to fab up from some plywood.
Last time i looked at crutchfield's site, they had that speaker listed as one that would fit easily, i didn't think you would need any spacers to make it fit. please let me know how they fit if you ever get them in.. and how they sound thanks!
Ed, I did the front door speakers only so far. They sound great compared to the stock, so much more clarity and definition. It's hard to tell how much is attributable to the speakers along as I also added Brown Bread sound insulation. With a little more tinking, I managed to secure the speakers using the included universal bracket and a foam ring that came with the speakers. When I checked for clearance with the windows it was fine with about 0.5-0.75 cm distance from the speaker magnet.
