Car alarm. Is it worth it?

For those of you who have a car alarm. I was just wondering if it was worth the money you paid for? Has it stop anyone from stealing your car or inside the car. I'm considering one since I live in a big town (10 miles from downtown Portland) but not sure if it's worth the $300-$400 because I don't know how many cars has been stolen around here.

Yo

I would say that a security system would protect your car in my opinion!!! I have a Viper Alarm and thought about installing trunk and hood switches and all the extra stuff!!!! Hopefully after that my car might be safer

p.s. An alarm has saved my work van ...(KNOCK on MY HARD WOOD DESK)
