Checking before firing it up
Checking before firing it up
Hey, I'm checking out my system before I turn it on for the first time, and I don't seem to have a connection to chassis ground. This is where I tried to attach my ground: flipped down the 1/3 back seat, pulled up the flap on the bottom of the back of the seat, removed the bottom bolt, and ran my ground wire to that.
Is this not a good chassis ground? I'm fused at 50 amps, so I'd rather not smoke my amplifier with that kind of power.
Finally, anything else I should check before letting her rip?

not sure what you are asking for. you are saying you don't have ground but then you said you haven't fired it up yet. so unless you have like a volt meter or something how are you checking to see if you have power. And if you do have a volt meter just use that to find your ground.. You have to turn the car on to get the amp to fire up. Thats why you have a remote wire... unless i am confussed what are you asking?

I'm saying that I connected my amplifier ground to the seat bolt, but when I measure (yes, with a volt meter) from that to the chassis I get an open circuit. I'd rather not have to sand and drill in my trunk, and I know mohawkboom has said that there are some bolts on the seats that work as good grounds. I just want to know if we're talking about the same ones.
just put the red probe on your power lead and then put the black on any bolt you want to use. if its 12 volts then use it. you can even use a self tapping screw into the metal in the trink well and get ground so i can't see how you are not getting ground from that bolt. i don't think you are doing something right. either your power is wrong or your volt meter or somethin cause that bolt is a good ground. maybe try scraping some paint away??? but you really shouldn't need to.
Turns out that wasn't the right bolt anyway, since those seat backs are removable. I guess the bolt I should have been looking for was under the seat, oh well. Now it's finally wired up but something's still not right when I turn it on. The power on the amp is on, but the sub doesn't seem to move. I guess I'll figure it out eventually...
well you can check your sub buy making sure the wires are connected to it. then take a small like AA batery and place the + wire on the top and - bottom of it. if your speaker is connected it will make a lil pop noise. if not your sub might be blown. unless its new. next check your RCA cables. what output on the deck you have it on. what deck do you have? check your crossovers on your amp. let us know .....
