OK, sorry bout the other one, but im not real knowledgeable with this car stereo stuff, so can you help me w/ something? ok i have a 10" JL W3, pushed by the JL 250W mono-block subwoofer amp. My question is can i add a second of the same sub and use that same amp? I think that if you wire it a ceartain way it doesnt matter how many you have, as far as power goes. But any way, can it work, will it hurt the amp, how will it sound? Not enough power? Opinions? Thanks.

The w3's are dual 6 ohm subs, correct? My friend has 4 JL 12w3's running off of one amp and his car hit 140.3 db with no sound-deadening material! But, back to your question, you could probably use more power for two 10's. But, a 250 w. amp would be ok. It would depend on if your amp could handle the ohm load. For instance, if you were to take one subwoofer(assuming they are dvc) and wire the positive terminal to the other positive terminal(on the same sub), and the negative terminal to the negative terminal(on the same sub), then run the speaker wires from one of the terminals to the amp you would have a three ohm load. Then, if you were to add another subwoofer(wired the same way), and run it to the same terminals on the amp you would have a 1.5 ohm load. The lower the number the higher the current draw from the amp(and the more sound). The more current the more heat is generated. So look in the manual and if it can handle a 1.5 ohm load, then there shouldn't be a problem. Even if it can handle a 2 ohm load, I personally would still do it. But, that's just me. Technically that shouldn' t be done. But,usually if you are running at too high of an ohm load for an extended period, the amp will overheat and shut off. Once it cools down it will turn back on. This is a protective circuit in most quality amplifiers.

There are other ways of wiring dvc subs that would cause different loads, and I think that they all be of a lower current draw(not sure). I hope that I didn't confuse you, if you have quality equipment(and JL is) then you shouldn't have to worry about causing any permanent damage. And, in case that you don't really know what you are doing or have any questions, just bring it in to a car audio shop. They may charge you, but at least you shouldn't have to worry about future problems. Just my two cents. Hope this helps.

Can someone check my info to make sure that I didn't misspeak myself. I'm not new to the car audio scene by any means, but it is always good for someone to doublecheck your wording. Thanks.

I think you're more or less right, i just wanted to note that W3s are also available in dual 2, dual 4 and i think dual 6.

I think if we knew what your current sub's ohmage, then we could help more

with the JL amp it will. that amp puts out the same pwoer between 1.5 and 4ohms. As long as you can get a 1.5-4ohm load it will work. GO to JL's website and look in tutorials for wiring subs to get a better idea.

I thought that I had heard that there were different ohm ratings on those particular subs. Thanks for the concurrance on my info. It's good to know that my experience in the car audio realm has not gone to waste.

One thing, JL amps atleast the 500/1 do not like anything below 4 ohms, they tend to pop (sounds like the sub is bottoming but it isn't.) They shouldn't, but they do. By the way, where did you buy your stuff? I see you are pretty close by and just wondering.

ok, iwent andtalked to my local Tweeter (fomerly Bryn Mawr) store where i got my stuf and asked a guy about it. He said that it can work, but yol be able to tell that they need more power. He suggested getting the 500/1 to push it, most likely, thats what i'll do. Im also thining about getting mid price range Boston's for replacements, and pushing them w/ the JL 500/4. Any comments on that? As for my subs, i think theyre 4 ohm, off the top of my head. Thanks for all the help. Yeah Slammed2k1, im in the Lebanon area. Are u interrested in a car club? You can PM me. Thanks everyone!

I figured that was Tweeter, because we are the only ones that sell JL amps around here I think. I'm at the one in Reading. By the way that is the JL 300/4 and what is the name of the club?
