2002 Civic LX Sedan
2002 Civic LX Sedan
I just ordered my Civic LX Sedan and can't wait to get my paws on it. I have a couple of questions I hope you can help me with.
I would like to get an mp3 head unit, I would prefer one with a motorized face that disappears when the power shuts off. Anyone have any suggestions?
I am also looking for recommendations about speakers. I will be upgrading as soon as I get the car and I really like clean sound with good tight bass. Beside speaker upgrades, I am looking for subwoofer/bass solutions. I don't listen to tunes really, really loud so I don't want big huge bass...just good tight bass inside the Civic. I don't want people to hear me before they see me. Any suggestions or ideas??

I was just like you when I first got my civic sedan. I didn't want too much bass...just good bass. Well, now that I have good bass, I want LOUD, EARTH-RUMBLING, RUN-FOR-THE-HILLS and HIDE THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN bass. I'm sure others here will agree, if you don't listen to loud music now...you will as soon as you get a new system. Don't try try and skimp on anything, otherwise you will just end up upgrading later on. Go with a setup that provides good and loud bass. If you read through the posts, alot of folks here like the new jbl line of amps (great price considering the many features and good specs). As far as speakers are conserned, without spending an arm and leg (plus donating a kidney or two) you might want to check out some mb quart components (less than $225 if you really look around). The mb quarts have superb highs. For subs- you can't go wrong with JL's. This may sound a little over the top (I found out the hard way), but you may want to increase your budget to include sound deadener like dynamat or Raam mat. That rear deck of the civic sedan rattles a helluva lot and will annoy the pi$$ out of you. Plus the sound deadener will help elimanate any other unwanted vibrations (especially in your doors). I don't have any suggestions for mp3 players...sorry.
Just my 2 cents......Do it right the first time so you won't be kicking yourself later on.

In agreement with tre, Quart's or Infinity Kappa's. I had Polk's running before my kappa's. Polk's are great as well but I enjoy the Infinity's a bit more. Cleaner crisp sound over the Polk's. I am running an Alpine 7995 HU. Great HU. Does not fold over, but there is one similar. I think it is the 7998. New and expensive but very much worth it. Again your limited on money, this I undersand. Suggestion, work up the system little by little, you will end up better in the long run.
I have spent too many years listening to real loud music.....too many years. It seems that I have done some damage to my ears and I HAVE to learn to keep it down. Doctor's orders. To tell you the truth, I really REALLY want to get a great sound system but I don't know if I have the self control. If I just leave the factory install, I know I'll keep it down. I hate crappy sound.

If that be the case..I'd go with some good components up front and a a single 12" sub in the back all run off a quality 4 chanel amp..that way it won't get too loud..and it'll sound great.and still be at a reasonale cost

I have an pioneer premier 740 mp3 headunit and i love it. im sure there are a lot of other units that are better but considering that honda trusted to put pioneer audio equipment in their new civics, i figured i would too. The only thing i regretted about getting it was that about a month later pioneer released the new premier 840 model with the two piece motorized face. no hideaway function but friggin sweet when its in action. You could easily go overboard and blow the grand just on a headunit, no wait thats something i would do. anyways thou just stick with a good name and ask ask ask and research like crazy, nothing sux more than getting a stereo cuz its got some cool lites on it that glow in the dark and end up with horrible preouts that just drop out after the first bass beat hits. (note to self, never buy another jvc... *leaves a moment of silence for other members to line up and laugh at me*) but hey, thats just my three cents.

Pioneer 8400 will do those tricks and then some!!! Speakers-1667s in the doors (Pioneer), 1 12" JL Audio Sub, and a Rockford Fosgate 200M. Don't forget the dynamat!!! This set up should give you just the sound you are looking for!!! Good Luck and most of all, just have fun with it!!!
