04 Coupe EX Alarm Concerns

When I bought this car from the previous owner it had what looks like a factory alarm installed. (I read that this doesn't come standard on the ex and that he probably had the option added at honda.)

One day I went to double lock my key fob and I got no horn honk confirmation. After messing around a bit I've determined that it seems the factory alarm has failed. When I press the panic button nothing happens now. The red blinking light in the dash has since vanished.

Anyways, I'm installing a Viper 5305V alarm with remote start in it's place.

I would like to pull the old alarm out but I can't find it. I'd worry about the factory alarm coming back to life and how that might introduce issues with the new alarm I'm installing.

Any ideas?? thanks.

Re: 04 Coupe EX Alarm Concerns

IIRC the dealer add on security instructions placed the red LED in the middle of the top steering column cover. If your LED is elsewhere, you might have an aftermarket unit installed (or maybe they had a lazy installer)

Does the factory keyless entry still work the power locks?
Power locks still work normally?
Maybe there's just a jamb switch problem, cylinder switch problem, trunk switch issue, blown fuse, etc.
Other electrical gremlins appeared at the same time? Might need a MICU.

To find dealer installed security add-on:
Go to http://estore.honda.com/

Look up your car, look up accessories, find the area where you can download accessory installation instructions, find instructions for the security system install, then you should be able to locate it on your car and disable or remove it.

Re: 04 Coupe EX Alarm Concerns

Just for the others.. It's located behind the cigarette lighter. It's a keyless entry/alarm module. plugs right into the fuse box by the drivers right foot.

It uses an LED that's already built into the tach. I don't know what people are talking about with an externally mounted red LED. lol
