Stereo Problem

Hey All,

I have an aftermarket head unit installed and it has been working flawlessly for the past 3 years now however, just recently when I turn it up to a louder volume it keeps cutting in and out on me. I have noticed that its the entire system itself including the head unit, all four speakers, and the sub; they all turn on and off when I turn it to a louder volume. Could it be because the head unit itself is really old? It's about 5 years old, or a power situation, I only noticed it happening after I replaced my battery with a brand new one. Any advise would be awesome.

Thank You

Re: Stereo Problem

Check your battery cables and everything that attaches to it. clean off the connections and replace the cables if necessary. It sounds like a bad connection to your battery.

Re: Stereo Problem

Hey

Thanks for the response, if there were a bad connection to the battery wouldn't the car not start? I installed the head unit myself and never even had to go near the battery for installation other than making sure it was disconnected so I didn't get shocked. I'm not convinced it's a bad connection....

Re: Stereo Problem

Sounds like an issue in the power chip in the head unit. It may be getting hot and shutting down. Does it come back on after a few minutes or do you have to shut off the car and restart it?
If it comes back on only after a shut off and restart of the car, how quickly does that happen? Can you replicate it on demand, or does it take time after the head unit has been turned up?

Is the head unit shutting completely off, or just losing sound?

Re: Stereo Problem

It's actually just the sound that cuts off the head unit stays on. It doesn't cutoff permanently either it just keeps tuning in and out when the volume is up.

Sounds like one of the speaker wires is grounding out. Follow the wiring and see if it is pinched or cut anywhere, especially in the doors.
