2002 Honda Civic EX Cruise Control

Hi guys,

The cruise control on my civic doesn't want to come on.

The green light is on on the main switch, when I press "SET" nothing happens.

Wondering if any of you might have an idea what it might be? I don't want to change the switches for nothing. Is there anything that could preventing it from engaging? Like Hood latch sensor or something like that?

The second light does not come on?

Got airbag warning light on? Does the horn work?

You can get a troubleshooting guide and a voltmeter and test each part of the system.

The light in the dash doesn't come on.

The only light I have is the light on the cruise button on the right hand side of the steering wheel(with power mirrors panel).

Go to the last pages of this thread and see if the link is still up https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...e-updated.html

I've never actually checked if it works or not .....

Brake lights are new aftermarket LED housing. Could that be the problem? It would make sense, it stopped working after I did the install.

Re: 2002 Honda Civic EX Cruise Control

Sorry, no love here for available aftermarket led brake bulb replacements.

Factory systems......yes.

Add some load resistors if you choose.

Re: 2002 Honda Civic EX Cruise Control

So your saying even tho the Brake lights are not within the diagram they could be linked to the problem? How big do you think the resistors should be?

Re: 2002 Honda Civic EX Cruise Control

Proven fact, By you.

Not sure what value folks use. Check the online led suppliers and try to find a resistance value, and wattage they use. "load resistors"

They simulate the load of the missing bulbs filament

Re: 2002 Honda Civic EX Cruise Control

Could I buy extra sockets and just tap in the line with a new bulb?

This would have been handy info to include in the first post.....

Put your original tail/brake lights back in and see that your cruise works correctly again.

Re: 2002 Honda Civic EX Cruise Control

By looking at the wiring diagram which didn't mention anything about brake lights I didn't think it could have anything to do with it. Sorry.

Re: 2002 Honda Civic EX Cruise Control

*DISCLAIMER: Not my picture. Shamelessly taken from a Google image search*

as stated above, load resistor will solve your woes. One across each LED brake light should do.
If the bulb in question acts as a double filament bulb (i.e. brake and turn signal), make sure the load resistor is across the brake light circuit, not the turn signal circuit.
