blinking check engine light then car shuts off.
blinking check engine light then car shuts off.
My 2001 Honda civic ex recently got a p1361 tdc code. I turned off the car and let it reset and it was fine for a day. But then today while I was driving a made a sharp turn. Pretty fast and my check engine light started blinking. The car rpm started going up then down then it started idling higher then normal. I drove it home and tryed turning it on again in a couple hours but it did the same thing and just shut off. If anyone can help it would be great.

Re: blinking check engine light then car shuts off.
P1361 is intermittent interruption of the CMP signal.
Here's what the computer had to see before it set the code:
Malfunction Threshold
More or less than four TDC sensor pulsing signals during intervals between standard pulses. This status occurs 30 times.
Recent work done? See if the CMP connector isn't plugged in all the way.
Possible wiring issues, bad sensor, cam out of time?
If the PCM thinks the cam is out of time, it shuts down the engine.
Worst case, check this and pay attention to the VIN numbers this applies to, because the problem was fixed during the production run. Bulletin tells you to inspect camshaft end play so you will need a real shop manual if you don't already know how.
I have yet to actually see one of these cars with this problem. http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/th...1_and_1362.pdf

DIAGNOSIS
Remove the valve cover. Check the camshaft for
excessive end play. The maximum allowable amount of
end play is 0.5 mm (0.02 inch)(see page 6-40 of the
2001–02 Civic Service Manual).
• If the end play is more than 0.5 mm (0.02 inch), go to
REPAIR PROCEDURE.
• If the end play is less than 0.5 mm (0.02 inch),
proceed with normal troubleshooting.
So if the end play is less than that 0.5mm (0.02 inch) specified above, this is not your problem. Ignore the bulletin and carry on with normal troubleshooting.
Get a service manual and check the end play the way the book says to, if you think this may be the problem.

Whoooo boy.
Human error can be the toughest to figure out.
I might verify the wiring for the sensor(s) in question are all electrically good to the computer first.
Voltage, ground, and signal.

Belt slipping.
Alternator belt is too loose, it needs tightened or replaced.
Inspect it and solve that problem before it lets the battery run dead while you drive.
If the engine has to come apart though, this can be addressed at that time.
