new speakers

Finally replaced speakers and wow
replaced factory with new Pioneers
TS-A1604C up front fit fine with
plastic ring from crutchfield.
Had to do a little butchering to the pod
to mount the new tweeter but looks stock still.

TS-A6964R in Rear.
Crutchdield said wouldn't fit but after measuring and comparing specs
I couldn't see why not ...so I ordered them.
They drop right in no problem even used stock screws to mount them.
At least 1/2 inch from springs.
Well needless to say it is a noticeable improvement over stock.
Now time for suspension

Re: new speakers

Well Crap
Driving home today my Alpine won't play with the front speakers on,
it goes into protect mode.
gonna have to take er apart but I can't see how it can be a
loose connection as I used a harness from crutchfield so I didnt have to cut any wires.

But the problem I think I have is an Impedance issue because I used the
factory wiring.
any one else seen this?
Going to go out now and rip door skits out n check for loose spade connector.
If not that think i gonna pull deck measure impedance and maybe run new speaker wirez....

Damn sounded good for a day er 2.

Re: new speakers

i never had problems running aftermarket infinity speakers with stock deck, other than really bad wiring issues. those connectors suck and would always cut out. finally i soldered the speaker wires to the car harness directly and put shrink tube around the connections to seal out water.

Re: new speakers

I'm running an Alpine CDE-123 for over a year with stock speakers and just
droped in new pioneers.
Only thing is when i removed my tweeter in the pod it had a plug
and was connected to the harness too.
Now my tweeter is connected to mid.
I suspect impedance or could b crap connection, maybe I just solder them.

I see bestbuy has the pioneer DEH8400 onsale for 169 think i will pick one up just in case its the Alpine.
Never been real fond of this deck ne way.

Re: new speakers

ah i see what you did. my sedan did not have stock tweets, just 4 speakers. it sounds like you tied in the tweets to the door speakers which is a big no no. prolly blew them and possibly damaged the deck too. you should have bought component speaker replacements for the front, which is a set having the mid/woofer in the door and a separate tweeter for the sail. it will come with a crossover driver to make sure each component gets the proper power and frequency.

Re: new speakers

They are components
ts-A1604C's have inline crossovers.
I took factory ones out and put new one in its place
defiantly hooked up right hard to screw them up really.

Kind of odd it worked like a charm for a few days sat,sun and monday and on way to work today.
gotta take er a part and have a look.
can get it to play if i put fader to rear through 6x9's
so something up with the front components

Re: new speakers

ah okay sounds like its just bad connection then. try soldering and see what happens. be sure to observe proper polarity (dont mix + and - wires)

Re: new speakers

back to normal
Soundin fine with no cut outs.

The ground on mid was loose in
front passenger door.(spade connector)
So i give er a squeeze with my pliers and broke out
the ol soldering iron and make sure it wont come loose again.
While I was at it i did em all.
I hate havin to touch a stereo after installed.

Also remounted Front woofers in door to make sure all connectors
were as far away from the door cut out as possible.

back to normal except better
Oh and I'm pretty quick at removin door and mountin speakers.
Bet can do it in less then 1/2 hour now with plastic crutchfield rings.

Re: new speakers

Well after a week or so with the new speakers and liking it.
I have come to really like the components and not so much with the
6x9's.
The components sound a lot better then the 6x9's
They sound ok but when u crank it up they get a little muddy.
The components sound great load or low.
Acustic gitars and vocals sound awsome and lots of punch.
Thinking of geting another set of ts-a1604c's for the rear.

Prolly end up kijijiin the 6x9's someone will get a deal i guess.
