Need some help!
Need some help!
Alright hey guys.
So I've posted here before about when I got my stereo installed they f'd up and it ended up smoking. Well, I went thru 40 pages last night in the forum looking for answers, I saw a guy that posted pictures, but no responses were given. So.
I pulled out the gauge cluster, and I am going to post a few pictures so you guys would be able to let me know the extent of the damage and if so what I have to fix. It looks to me like it's something to do with resoldering it?
Anyway, here are the pictures.
This one you can see the top and just to the left of the flash

This one is a close up of the top

This is a close up of the one on the left.

Thanks in advance. I'm assuming this is a regular problem around here?

Re: Need some help!
A dead short would have caused that.
Depending on whether or not there is component damage, it could be resoldered by someone that knows what they are doing. Jumpers could be soldered in to bridge the connections. But if there are any components that got damaged, it still wouldn't work.
Unplug the damn stereo. Rewire it properly. Do NOT use the lead for dash light illumination this time. If someone else did the stereo, they owe you a new cluster.

Yeah, that is a smoked trace.

Anyway. I'm going to be asking a buddy if he would be able to do some soldering for me. Hopefully.
Is there any way of knowing if there are any components damaged?
Sorry, new to all this

Re: Need some help!
Was it a nation wide big box company, or some local small business? Never mind, it's irrelevant now.
"Reputable" companies can employ the finest minimum wage knuckle draggers too.
If individual components are smoked and/or blown open, that would be somewhat obvious, but a lot of that stuff is smaller than a grain of rice. Some types of damage cannot be seen. Think of it like a computer, because there's a lot of it on there.
Repair what can be seen, and see what happens.

Nice. Business ethics at their finest.

Hey, I said screw it and went out and got a new cluster from a wrecking shop for $50 CDN. The only thing is the odometer reading is 40,000 KM less than what my car is, but oh well.
