Sony explode->memphis mcd500->new model rockford p1

Ok...so heres where I started. I got a sony xplod 52wx4 head unit(yea I know,but I got it for $180 on clearance and it was one of the better ones) and a memphis mcd500 mono amp powering two memphis pr1-12". Worked great for a while but after about 8 months the subs started cooking voice coils. I had them hooked up to only one voice coil per sub as it was(got it used so idk) so one day I got a trunk full of smoke and it all stopped working.

I replaced the subs with two rockford fosgate p/1 punch 12"(the newer model that're all black), fixed up the wiring inside the box and made sure the amp was hooked up correctly with all good connections.

Problem: nada....the blue l.e.d. on the amp turns on, but not the power light, and no power to the wires. Ive now traced it to realize theres no power to the rca output of the head unit. all fuses show 0 resistance in amp and in head unit. Im going to have the local audio shop check out the amp on monday, but what would cause the preamp to quit all at once? I dnt wanna replace the head unit n have it happen to another if its possible the amp.. Crap im just frustrated!

that's why you cooked the subs. you can't connect only one coil. they both have to be connected.

Well I pinched my pennies n went over to the audio shop. Turns out the memphis amp was fried . Only thing I had enough change for was a kenwood kac8105D. I wouldve preferred a rockford amp, but I cant complain for $250 they fixed all my wiring, replaced my half melted power wire fuse holder, and hooked it all up. Tjink it was $220 for the amp.
I now have the xplod head unit>kenwood 1000w(500w rms @2ohms)>rockford fosgate p1 punch 12"x2
Im happy! More than I wanted to spend, but it sounds great!
