I just installed my neon kit, and
My electrical system is acting funny.

Hazards - buzzing sound from flasher
Headlightz - buzzing sound from fuse box
Radio - doesnt turn on

Cruise control light on dash wont turn off
Trunk light and maintenance required light flicker at a random pace

I have no clue what is going on but i have a spare flasher laying around ill replace it and see what happens

EDIT: did a little research on the good ol google and supposedly relays buzz when there isnt enough voltage. I turned the car on acc and the dash lights were very dim. Car battery is charging right now.
I also disconnected my neon kit and cleaned the battery terminals, changed nothing

Problem Fixed! battery was too low on power. let it charge overnight and it works fine now.
btw - I grounded it using a bolt on the chassis and I got the positive from one of the 2 screw/bolts in the fusebox

Umm, why didnt u get the power straight from the battery and used a kill switch. Thats what I did when I had them.

My assumption is it looks cleaner with less wires around the battery


@ Slim Risk: Those screw bolts go straight to the battery, correct? When going straight to the battery for power you need to add a fuse to prevent too much power to the wires and risk of a fire, so i'm hoping you have a fuse on it.

Also, is it neon, or LED? Is it underglow for the car, or is it interior lighting?

Its led underglow from plasmaglow. I have the wires unfused, havent had a problem. They dont get warm or anything. What amp fuse should I place in-line?

until something wears through and shorts out, then you've got a fire on your hands. (ask me how i know....) fuse depends on the load and wire size. i'd guess 10A at the most though.

This is what I did for my cousins car when I did his LED underglow (same company I think). So I wouldn't know what size fuse to put. I would go with what Electric130 said.

try to guess what the wire size is and then pick a fuse accordingly. every positive wire accessory you add needs a fuse, no exceptions.

here you go, its a bit on the conservative side. the whole point of a fuse is for it to blow first and protect the wiring. if the fuse is too high for the wire, then the wire will fry before the fuse blows and cause a fire. if the fuse is too low, it will keep popping for no reason. use this as a general rule, but there is some leeway in the wiring and usually a few amps higher rated fuse will be fine. i use a 15 amp fuse for my 14 gauge wire for the headlights and no problems.

probably more work then it's worth imo. If I were you I'd run the wires to the cigarette lighter. It already has a fuse and LEDs aren't gonna put any strain on it.

Already bought the fuse and fuse holder, and I have the wires leading up to the battery.

The last person who owned my car did things the unprofessional way, so when im modding this car, I want to mod it as professionally as possible. Which means no cheaping out and using the cig lighter for an easy power source.

Using the cigarette lighter isn't "cheaping out" or an "easy power source."

The wires are hidden and out of the way. In fact, the instructions that come with the underglow say to splice it into any wire that has a constant 12v (like the cigarette lighter). Putting it straight to the battery, imo, is pointless when you have options that will do the exact same thing with less work and less of a headache. It's not about working hard, it's about working smart.

so long as you dont exceed the amp draw of the 12v socket, you can put whatever you want there. its a switched acc power source and more convenient than having a switch cause they will turn off when you remove the key in case you forget.
