"I saw a car on fire in the install dept of bestbuy once. Instead of takeing my freinds advice to just pull of the batery terminals and saveing most of the car, they let it burn untill the fire dept arrived and watched them pull the teminals with an ax, the car was junk then. never found out exactly how it started, but I heard bb paid for it and fired the installer"
not my story, but it can happen, if you dont disconnect power and are rushing or clumsy

i forgot to disconnect the wiring harness from the cars connector in my girlfriends sisters 88 corolla when i was taking out the old head unit and installing a new one, and i ended up blowing the fuse when i was untaping the wires. no harm done though, the head unit came with a spare fuse that was the right type (10 amp)
Sadly, i learnd this lesson the hard way..... i blew my 4ch amp due to stupidity well thank god i got it fixed under warranty!
before I knew what i was doing, I blew about 15 fuses installing an amp. Luckily no damage to the car.

I guess im lucky that ive never blown any fuses installing audio equipment, unfortunately for me and my own stupid as$ while i was re-wiring the power lead to my remote start/ alarm/ keyless entry 2-way paging system (big description eh?) i accidentally tapped teh pliers i was crimping down the splice with against the grounded steering column framework, heard a loud snap and instantly realized **** this isnt under warranty... Luckily it was only my 40amp ground fuse and the local autozone had ONE 1 left in stock. Too bad they charge like 5 times as much as riceboyz...
Whenever I'm taking out the Head unit I disconnect the terminals. One time, I was putting new spades on my 4 gauge power wires and forgot to disconnect the terminals. The ground came in contact with the positive for a brief second and sparked, burned some of the gold plateing off the terminals too. Scared the sh*t out of me. So now, I disconnect the terminals everytime I work on the stereo.
