Type of Resin to choose
I have read that laminating resin is the best type of resin to use when create a fiberglass enclosure because it doesn't ahve the wax that rises and must be sanded off. I also read on a companies web site, that Isophthalic Tooling Resin is used for things that require more strength. I have to use polyester resin for my fiberglass mat. the question is, of the following three types, what should I choose as my resin???
- Boat & General Purpose Resin, formulated with low viscosity for quick wet out of mat and roving, contains thixotropic agent to prevent drainage on vertical surfaces. (since i'll be created a side mount sub box)
- Isophthalic Tooling Resin, formulated for making molds or parts that require higher physical properties.
or
- Vinyl Ester Laminating Resin, good wet out, considerably tougher and more durable than polyester resins. Exhibits strength properties similar to epoxies, less expensive, and easier to handle.
The isophthalic seems to be what I would want because it is strongest, but the vinyl says that it is SIMILAR TO EPOXIES. Finally, the general purpose is easier to deal with on vertical like i will be doing. See where the problem arises??? I know one of you has the answer!!! Thanks in advance!!!

I read just about every one of the posts on termpro yesterday. The only thing I saw was that you should use laminating resin. Didn't mention what kind, and I was just afraid it wouldn't be strong enough for a subwoofer enclosure.

I know. I'm SO excited about it! I have already thought of all kinds of things, from custom kicks to sub boxes to amp racks. I CAN'T WAIT!!! The stupid place that I wanna buy from is closed til monday though, and they are in Washington state, so it will take like 4 days to get my stuff. Sweet man. Where in walmart did you find the mat and roving? I couldn't find it yesterday when I was there, just the resin.
