need some insight on how to wire a new antenna

I bought a 2001 ex civic a year ago for a great deal and the only problem with it was that it doesn't receive any radio reception at all. It wasnt a problem at first but now i want to figure out how to get it to work. So started to look into it and it looks like when the previous owner got the tint redone the tinters cut the stock antenna on the windshield. So is their an easy way i can solder another antenna wire along the rear headliner? Also my headunit is HD ready but what does that exactly mean? what do i have to do to get the HD working? thanks

I can tell you about the HD Ready part, basically you need an HD Adapter which your radio will easily accept. If you want HD Radio then you must buy said adapter and your radio will be able to work with HD Radio Signals but, before you do that you should look up to see how many HD Radio stations are available in your area using http://www.hdradio.com/stations. HD Radio is quite an upgrade from Standard Radio. You should look into it.

I spoke with someone and they said that HD receivers can pick up even non hd channels. is that true? and when I mount the receiver does it have to be like satellite receivers and be near a window?

I can tell you yes they do pick up Non-HD Channels. If by receiver you mean the headunit some headunits have HD-Radio Tuners built in which just connect to the existing Car Antenna but in your case for your radio you would need the little adapter which would bridge the connection from your antenna to your headunit which would allow the HD-Radio Channels to be heard.

by receiver i mean the hd adapter. Does the adapter have to be in plane site like satellite radios do? or can the box be mounted underneath the passenger seat or trunk?

Im not certain how the Process for the Adapter is, but i would take it that it can simply hide out of view behind your Headunit with in the Dash. Considering all it really does is bridge the Antenna to the Headunit and throwing in the commands that allow for HD Channels to be used.

Do you mean they scrapped off the metallic paint on the window?

1.Go down to the autoparts store and get metallic paint for the antenna (they should know what you mean), some tape and a brush.

2. Take off existing tint. A really hot day or a heat gun and it will peel right off. *Be careful to not take off any more antenna paint.

3. Outline the antenna lines on the window with tape.

4. Paint in new lines, remove tape, re-tint.

Dang I knew I should have waited on putting on new tint. I work at a tint shop and didn't wanna wait to take my old tint off so I redid the whole thing today. Oh well, what I did for the antenna was just get some wire that we had at the shop and hooked one end to a male connector and hooked it into the booster cable or whatever on the rear passenger side and ran it around the top of the headliner and voila i get all the stations in crystal clear. But I think I'm going to still look into getting th hd adapter just have to wait for the right deal. Their pretty expensive. Thank for all the help everyone.
