Amps and Thiefs

Ok, I'm trying to find some sort of way to hide my ICE or make it really hard for them to track/pull out I want them to have to spend at least 10 minutes trying to take them off.... I'm going to have 2 Amps in the back, and a 10" Sub. I don't care much for the sub/box they can take that instead, what i'm looking for is to have the least possible loss in $$

This will be my setup:

2 Amps
1 10"
1 LCD In Dash

So if they take the LCD/10" at least I'll keep the Amps and I have no HU. Where would be the toughest part? under the the trunk? If I build a custom trunk like tre did?

Thanks in advance

for amps.. well there's no magic trick to stop thieves.. best thing I've seen so far was making a false floor and mounting the amps underneath it. But a fan is highly reccomended to keep the amps cool enough to operate properly. Basically it'll look like you have a regular bare trunk floor. And mount the 10" sub in your spare tire well. You can actually fit the enclosure between your spare tire and jack. and make a wire mesh grill and lay the carpet over that. Looks like you have a 100% stock trunk. Also if your feeling really security consious. If you have the OWM pocket cover under your Stock HU. you can keep your Stock HU as a dummy, and mount your indash flip out screen in the pocket underneath and mount it just far enough back that you can close the pocket and still be able to pull out the screen.

This way it all looks Stock.

Cheers

hmm I'm going to look into that and take some measurements.

Ok amps overheating...

I'm looking into the JBL P80.4 to power my speakers and I have an MTX Thunder250x. Do you think I'll need a fan? If So, should I make a couple of holes in the carpet, and put some fans there, is that what you meant?

EDIT: By the way, my insecurity issues come from past experiences (2 $400 ea HU, and a cheap $120 amp). This was right infront of my noses, separate occassions.

Way understandable... For the amps.. well if you leave enough room above them and arounf hem they should be able to keep cool enough..but on hot summer daysnthey might overheat fast

when they overheat they don't DIE and I'll never be able to use them type of deal right? they just temporarily shut off right? I live in Cali, and I do expect it to go past 100 degrees this summer

If they're good amps..they go into Thermal protection and shut off before any damage can occure

another good thing to do is to occasionally throw in screws that have different heads, phillips, flat head, square head, star, hex. throw them for a loop

and the neatest thing to trhow in would be a couple reverse thread screws. really make them work for their prize

of course, if thye can just rip it out, all yoru expensive scrws have gone to waste.....

and if htey cant steal it, they will put a hole through your cone =/ stoopid thieves.

Easier way really now that I been thinkin... Mount everything out in the open using Chromed screws..take alot of pics of what you have. Send them to the insurance company (keepa set for yourself) and if they get stolen. They are covered, but at a 14% per anum dipretiation rate

I did something like this. I used those screws that only go in one way, they have 'ramps' going the other way. Hard to describe, but Home Depot should sell them.
After I used these to mount the amps to the box, I got some screw-eye-bolts and mounted two of these in line and close to each other.

.()..()
..|...|
-----------|

Then I used a bike lock cable to thread the eye bolts and link to some holes in the frame of the trunk. I'll take pics at some point. It won't stop a determined theif who has some time, but some punk who popped my trunk and wants the amps/box is gonna have a little bit of a problem.

The best method is probably concealment. Don't bump by where you park, and take off the HU's face EVERY TIME.

Edit: ASCII art looked like poop. Pretend the .s aren't there

dude here yah go..... if your going to hid ur amp, hide underneath the driver's seat and bolt them down. cuz he will have to move the seat back and forth to get the amps out resultig in loss of valuable time.... but also keep in mind that when a thief can't get what he wants, he will either dystroy ur car (set it on fire) or come back later and steal ur whole car. trust me. i know.
get a alarm to try and at least ward off the would be theif.

there's next to NO room under the seats of our cars because of the crossbartype thing and the vent for rear circulation.. he'd have to have tiny amps for that

Mount Your amp on your back seat. ANd when you get out your car always make sure you lock you trunk release so the cant get in the runk unless the pop the key lock. The more time he has to spend the better off you are!!!
