Re: new deck, should i keep it?
its still worth it. this is the cheapest deck i ever had and i almost feel like i spent too little on it. but when i was checking out all the other higher end models (sony and other brands) they all looked ugly and didnt have any useful extras that i cared about. just having the usb for ipod and flash drive is such a big upgrade, and the deck looks amazing day and night. after quite a bit of research, many of the other models like alpine and pioneer have nowhere near the functionality of the sony ipod interface and some even require you to buy their own cable to make it work properly. i wouldve liked an amber color option, but to be honest i prolly would still use the blue

whew!
Glad you didn't start bagging on Kenwood. Mine Just got here today.
The Kenwood on the bottom is the old one. 15+ years old as a matter of fact. (you can tell that with the cassette player) at least it's not 8 track.

Re: new deck, should i keep it?
wow haha cassette! my first deck was a kenwood, back when they had the lil triangle source buttons. really nice decks back then and simple to use. it got stolen so i got the next model, which is now in dads miata. this was back about 10 yrs ago i think? then i got the uber top of the line pioneer with oel display, was neat at first but got tired of it, then had the alpine since 2005 and now the sony. i like the sony by far the best. alpine had a nice look and lighting, great sound, but no function.

Re: new deck, should i keep it?
Lol, dont get me started with Kenwood,
I have a personal vendetta against them.
Don't really know why though...
Maybe because of their menu system and output.
And mostly their looks.
Looks like some old geezer's mp3 fancy system that will only use about 30% of it's actual potential.
I really love the sony's, it's the only one to offer a 7 band EQ setting.
Steve, play around with the EQ settings, you may find that the sony has potential to outshine the alpine deck in sound quality
Also, the Sony has a built in LPF which i really like, beats buying some bass blockers

Re: new deck, should i keep it?
well i dug up an old but nice sandisk flash drive (4GB) and it works great with the radio, but unfortunately it has an amber led light on the side facing my head and it keeps flickering non stop during playback! so now the search starts for a drive without any leds. this is alot more difficult than it sounds. ive visited walmart and radio shack with no luck. they all have some sort of indicator. and i cant figure out how to open the flash drive without breaking it otherwise i would pop the led off.

Re: new deck, should i keep it?
um no lol. its a large "window" slider that lights up and not a dot. also the light seeps out from all the sides so that wouldnt work. i ended up finding a 2GB version and decided to sacrifice it by prying the case apart. i broke a few clips but most were still intact. popped the cover and scraped off the led. everything seemed to go back together and it works. so for now its a good start
Re: new deck, should i keep it?
bahhh ha ha ya i know i am. but if it was me and it was a black usb with an led, i'd paint it =D. my LED is blue and matchs my dash and deck so it's not painted, but if it wasn't... I'D PAINT IT =D

Re: new deck, should i keep it?
doesnt the constant flickering bother you? thats my only small problem with this deck is i wish it had the usb port in the back. that way i could run a long cable out of sight somewhere. i dont really like how a stick looks in the front lol. oh well cant complain that much.

Re: new deck, should i keep it?
Does anyone have an inexpensive deck with a USB in the back that they could suggest to me?
I want to replace mine once I finish buying text books.

Re: new deck, should i keep it?
there are some i found but to be honest they were more expensive and the front face and display looked terrible. pioneers new stuff is too shiny and cheap, alpine has that stupid red/white/blue lighting, and jvc/kenwood really isnt worth mentioning. the only ones i even considered were front usb. not only for the price but also looks.

$200 for a deck, that has an internal USB and a front loading USB
Although you dont have the rear USB port, you dont really need it
Plus, it has red/blue LEDs

Re: new deck, should i keep it?
only thing i dont like about the oel display is its not as bright and white as their regular lcd. i can barely see the one i have since the deck is at a bad angle. and im still not ready to give up cds.

Re: new deck, should i keep it?
I've given up on CD's long ago, I have never bought one album from an artist, nor will I ever.
Burning CDs and keeping them in the car is a hassle.
I dont know why it removed my image in my other post, but like i said Steve, adata has a USB with no indicator

Re: new deck, should i keep it?
You can fold it down in a 90 degree angle, and i can hang it on my keychain when not in use....so handy
Or, if you're inclined to, you can take apart the casing and only use the swivel point :P

Re: new deck, should i keep it?
hmm well unfortunately all the black buffalo usb drives are out of stock due to the hoildays when they stopped producing em. so i guess im stuck waiting a few months til they have a new batch. they have red and white which wont work ofcourse. i may go with lexar but cant find any stores that carry it besides ebay. and its more expensive.
