Stereo Upgrades
Stereo Upgrades
With the holiday season here I am planning on jumping on some of the good deals offered on I.C.E. products. Such as this Kenwood head unit...

I have the stock speakers in my car still. So my question is, will this head unit be functional with my stock speakers till I get the money to get new speakers?

Re: Stereo Upgrades
that headunit will be perfectly fine with ur stock speakers.
if u get aftermarket speakers, most likely u will have to get an amp to power them.

Re: Stereo Upgrades
If you're adamant on getting new speakers, there are package deals going on at www.crutchfield.com
$99 Headunit + 1 pair of 6.5" speakers
such as this one:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_700KD13...e.html?tp=5684
However, If you're more into digital music, and not concerned about CD's,
I would look into Sony Digital decks, that can store iPod/MP3 inside the deck
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158DSXS...0.html?tp=5684
However, your stock speaker will run fine on your aftermarket deck, I had stock speakers on my aftermarket HU for about a year before getting aftermarket speakers
and @ sleepyriceboi,
not necessarily true, you can run speakers without amps just fine
I've been running my Polk speakers without an amp for 4 months so far
Although, I want to get new tweeters and run the amp for tweeters + front speakers

Re: Stereo Upgrades
most headunits only power 50w and about 20w rms.
and generally speaking, yes the headunit would be able to power it, but it would be so under powered and wont sound as good as it should.
plus, there are quite a few mind range to high end speakers that only accept 2ohm...and not 4. this is a problem.

Re: Stereo Upgrades
Definately doesnt sound as good as it should, but they sound absolutely stunning even running on HU amp...cant wait to hear what they're like on an amp
Anyways, that's not much of a problem runnin on 2ohm, just wire the speakers in parallel

Re: Stereo Upgrades
Or Alpine's PDX series amps are self-regulating to spit out the same wattage for different impedences

Re: Stereo Upgrades
I'm just throwing that knowledge out there.. Not many people actually know they're self regulating amps, much less that self regulating amps exist.

Re: Stereo Upgrades
True, but more and more Audio companies are catching on,
JL Audio for example came out with its RIPS system in Slash V2 series for self regulating as well
That's why I want to get one
