Sound Deadener Question
Sound Deadener Question
Hi everyone I'm new to the forums and I've used search to gather knowledge but I had a few questions.
1. I've read that ICE and WATER Guard roofing material can be used instead of Dynamat. Some forum members say that it doesn't stick well and some say it is a great alternative. I want to place some sound absorbing material on my GF's 03 Coupe door panels while I install her front speakers. (I am following the DIY sticky) Any last minute opinions?
2. Is Ice and Water Guard (i.e. other sound proofing material) difficult to remove once placed? Incase, I any mechanical work needs to be done, such as replacing window regulator, door panel wiring, or etc.?
So you know before, she doesn't have a great system but I plan on fixing up her ride a bit. I just want to get a better idea before I start any work.
P.S. Does anyone know where to find OEM door panel fabric. My GF's door panel fabric was falling off and she used Gorilla Glue to put it back on. So lets just say it didn't hold up very well and ruined the fabric.
Any advice is appreciated
Thanks

Re: Sound Deadener Question
Ice and water shield works great, but I've never tried to remove it. It seems very similar to the OEM sound deadening and thats almost impossible to remove without blow torches, liquid nitrogen, chisels..
You can probably get OEM door panel fabric at the dealer, but for a few bucks you can buy Recaro knock off inserts off ebay that look just as good if not better.

Re: Sound Deadener Question
the only issue with the water guard is you have to buy a big roll in most cases. for the door panel, you can use the old one to cut a new piece from bulk fabric. check out fabric store but i always had trouble with the door panel fabrics. if you get a nice one, its often too thin and the spray glue will bleed thru it. too thick and it will eventually fall off or not look good.i went with suede on my last attempt and used double sided tape instead of glue. it held really well at first but over the summer it started to "bubble" in many places. im not sure what to do now except maybe look for a stronger tape idk. its not bad enough to need replacing yet, but getting there. that fabric is the worst thing honda did for this interior.

Re: Sound Deadener Question

It wouldn't do anything, its not nearly dense enough. I've been thinking about experimenting with spray foam for sound deadening though and adding rigidity to the body..

I'm talking about that pink shyt u put in ur attic
That stuff holds heat like a mother :P
And it helps lessen road noise
Better than that 4inch bag of weed they put in our rear panels that isnt even enough for a cat pillow :P
