HON98-AUX PIE install with OEM CD Player???

So I bought the PIE HON98-AUX for my 2002 Honda Civic LX sedan and started installing it today, but ended up running into problems. First of all, it took me forever to unscrew one of the screws that held the dash trim because my wrench was too long, but eventually I got it out. After pulling out the dash trim, I realized that the 14 pin data connector on the tape deck is taken by the OEM CD player. This is the same connector where I was supposed to plug in the PIE HON98-AUX. I want my OEM CD player to work together with PIE HON98-AUX, but that would require some kind of Y splitter. I looked on PEI website and found this:

http://www.pie.net/index.php?page=sh...mart&Itemid=40

It is made for something else but I wonder if it would work with my OEM CD player and the PIE HON98-AUX. I have searched online but was unable to find an answer to my problem. From the looks of it, this Y splitter should be able to accept the male connections of PIE and OEM CD player and then plug into the tape deck. Would the OEM tape deck recognize both connections(one being a cd player and another being the PIE adapter)? I really don't want to loose the ability to play CDs in my car, so if anyone has any input, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Re: HON98-AUX PIE install with OEM CD Player???

Isn't there a connection on your cd player? OEM usually comes with car harness slot and a slot for 6cd changer. PIE goes into the 6cd changer slot

I have an OEM tape deck and a single OEM CD Player. The CD player connects into the 14 pin slot on the tape deck. There are no connections on the CD player at all, just one wire sticking out that connects to the tape deck. The tape deck has the car harness and a single 14 pin connection where the CD player connects, but that is the same connection where I was supposed to connect the PIE AUX. For now, I disconnected the CD player and connected the PEI AUX, but I want to play CDs sometimes....Aghhh

Re: HON98-AUX PIE install with OEM CD Player???

easiest solution is go buy a stock cd player deck on ebay for $25 and swap that in place of the tape deck (and then remove the cd addon on the bottom).

Gearbox, thanks for pointing me in the right direction! I didn't know that honda made oem cd players like that, so I will consider it. So, far I haven't decided what I want to do, either stick with OEM or go aftermarket. If I stick with OEM it would cost me around $100 for the PIE, OEM CD player from ebay and a CD tray that goes underneath the CD player. I'm leaning towards going aftermarket and slowly building up a system(starting with buying a receiver with AUX input) but my budget is very limited so I don't know. The plus side of OEM deck is that it doesn't attract attention. I used to have a system in my previous car but one day it got stolen and I don't want it to happen again.

Re: HON98-AUX PIE install with OEM CD Player???

you can get a cheap aftermarket deck around $200 (even $100 can buy a decent one) that will play mp3 and have great quality. much better than the pie which is not the best way to play music. just look for a deck with removable face and take it with you.

I have almost the exact same car. 2002 Civic EX Sedan. My stock deck didn't have a tape player though. The Hon98-Aux should plug into the CD Changer port on the back of the head unit. I wrote up a detailed post with lots of pictures on my site @ http://www.ohtheresourdog.com/tech/?p=13
