Wiring goes in, speed sensor goes... WTF??
I ran my power line through the pass. side wiring harness hole (behind glove box) and down and out and then to the trunk (no biggie there) But now the check-engine light is on, and no speedometer reading... Read the light, and it came up as no signal from sensor (code 14?) So i'm assuming that I jiggled something or pinched a wire. I'm wondering if anyone has ever had experience with this before? Any tips? I checked all the grounds and no dice so far...
Re: Wiring goes in, speed sensor goes... WTF??
If you have an automatic, then the vehicle speed sensor(vss) is near the passenger side firewall. It sticks straight up out of the transmission and has a 3 wire connector running to it. Check to see if the connector is seated. If it is seated, and still gives you trouble, then you can look up how to troubleshoot the connector to see if the sensor is bad, or the wiring is bad. I have a 98, and I guess that there is a somewhat common issue where the wire bundle that runs to the VSS gets worn down behind the intake manifold and starts to short out. If you find that one of the connectors doesn't have the proper voltage, then you might want to check that wire bundle(but it's hard to get to and see unless you can get underneath the vehicle). I found the repair manual pages specific to this issue on another forum.. I hope nobody takes offense to me linking that: http://www.clubcivic.com/board/showthread.php?t=180280

Re: Wiring goes in, speed sensor goes... WTF??
Did you get a voltmeter and check the voltage at the connector? It's important that the voltage be correct or the speedo won't work and you may get CELs. The voltage is supposed 5 volts or higher. I found out that my aftermarket cruise control was the cause of my problem. With CC hooked up the voltage was around 3volts, and with it disconnected the voltage was around 6volts. No more CEL's and the speedo worked once the CC was disconnected. You don't need any special adapters to check the voltage, just find a good ground on the engine and hit the blue/white wire with the positive meter lead. You should get+5v or more there. The black/yellow should be ~+12V. (test both with ignition ON). Also, check fuse 15 to make sure it isn't blown. The black wire should be ground, so check continuity on that wire with a known good ground.

So I finally got some time yesterday to get in and take a look (kinda) & I light tested this connector-

RED= NOT working
BLACK= Unused
Multiple wires with no power = common source right? and since my gas meter is fluctuating and a few other lights are working...? Any insite is appreciated, and to ahhhonda- i haven't been able to get my hands on a voltmeter yet, would this still be a symtom?

So, I haven't tested the voltage on the VSS wiring harness, but if I disconnect the wiring harness, my speedometer still hovers around 20 mph. I jostled the wires connected to the harness to see if that would have an effect, but nothing changed. Does this sound like more of a problem with the instrument cluster?
