04 Gauge Cluster Compatibility

hi,

I had an issue before where my gauge cluster (speedo, tach, temp and fuel) would not work when I would start the car. Usually after while the cluster would just turn on while I was driving. Also, this whole issue happened very rarely, maybe about 5% of the time when starting the car.

However, I went to Honda (yeah I know bad idea ) and they said I need a new odometer kit, which includes the four gauges. Price: $739 cdn! I'm wondering: has anyone had this issue?

I read all the time on here about people swapping gauge faces and stuff, so I'm wondering: would an odometer part swap from an older civic to my 04?

I tried picking up a Haynes manual but they were sold out also! Damn it lol

Re: 04 Gauge Cluster Compatibility

haha just try and find a used one on ebay that is close to your mileage. they sell for around $100 or less USD. post a pic of your current gauges and i can tell you which style is a direct swap and which requires rewiring. if you get a brand new cluster, the mileage starts at zero. so you want a used one and try to match the mileage with what you have now.

Re: 04 Gauge Cluster Compatibility

Thanks for the reply Gearbox! Yeah I just took out the cluster as you said in another post. I took apart everything down to the circuit board, plugged it in, wiggled it a bit and it came back, so I'm thinking the board might have a crack or something. I'm trying to strip away all the plastic to get to the actual board right now, just to see. I'd rather keep my cluster than get a new one.

Don't have the camera on me at the moment. The cluster is:

small temp / big tack (with auto transmission gear) / speedo (kmh then mph) / small fuel

it's silver with black print. odo is 165k.

But yeah, going to play around with it for a bit longer, see if I can get it working reliably... I have it working atm, not reliably though.

PS: dumb question: do the dials on the gauges "pop" off or are they glued or screwed on or something? I'm looking, I don't see how they come off. Duhh lol

[EDIT] Colors are green for the gauge print and red dials.

Re: 04 Gauge Cluster Compatibility

yeah if the wires are loose, the cluster may be fine and just need to fix the loose wire. i wouldnt go pulling off the needles and faces inside cause there is not much you can repair.

Re: 04 Gauge Cluster Compatibility

I have had the same problem but I have noticed also my day time running lights do not turn on aswell my high beams do but I am guessing thats because I have the relay with my HID Kit.

My cluster use to come on and off and now its been off for a few days what could it be it use to go awy and allof a sudden come back randomly it stopped doing that.

Any idea?

I checked the fuse seems fine where is the wire or what would be loose?

Re: 04 Gauge Cluster Compatibility

if you remove that plastic bezel around the gauges, there are two green and blue connectors with a bunch of wires going to the cluster. take off the two screws, then stick your fingers behind the bezel and pull it straight back towards you. there is some tape and glue, so it may be hard to pull out the first time. tilt the steering wheel down to remove the bezel once loose. then try to jiggle the wires to see if the lights come back on.

Re: 04 Gauge Cluster Compatibility

Well its back on again, I cant figure out what fuse it could be in my fuse box doesnt say "cluster" any where. I will look at it again today. Also the gauges are working again but my Day Time running lights still dont turn on I checked the fuse even.

Re: 04 Gauge Cluster Compatibility

Hello

I got a honda civic dx/AC, 2001, 5 speet MT, Sedan. I am looking to buy this unit listed below

"Honda Civic 4dr LX DX Instrument Cluster Tach 2001 2002"

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...OC:MOTORS:1123

Found out electrically I am all good to go, except I got to pay through the nose and *** to get the mileage corrected.
