Few questions .. amp. sub. hatchback.
I have a few questions, and im somewhat new, so bare with me ... 1st off, im getting an amp and some subs, and im thinkin about getting 2 10" Rockford Fosgate HE2 Dual 4 ohm voice coil subs .. which by the way i dont understand any of that, and im thinking about the Kenwood 929 1000W amp. I am looking for a high quality sound, not really bumps or anything. So if there is something better, but not necessarily more exspensive, please feel free to throw some suggestions my way. My current setup is a pioneer deh 3400 face, 2 6.5 inch cerwin vega hed 162's, and 2 alpine boxed 6x9's as i have a hatchback and they dont fit. Im looking for good sound, but my hatchback doesn't want to cooperate, what would you do, and how would you position the subs as there isn't really a trunk to secure and hide them in. I know its kind of alot, but if you can try to answer anything you can, i would be much appreciative.
Thanks..
By the way, are cerwin vegas good speakers?
Thanks..

Rockford Fosgates are the way to go (my opinion). If you want SPL, they've got it. If you want tight, good quality bass, the 10's will give that too. With the hatchback though, are looking to advertise your setup or minimize it? In addition, if you're going with a sealed enclosure, you'll need 1.5 cubic feet, for a ported, you'll need 2. With a hatchback you're looking at a lot of space. If you're going for quality not quantity, one 10" would be good, which would allow you to buy a smaller amp (which takes space as well) or a multi-channel amp to run all your speakers rather than using the HU amp and saving money at the same time. Also look at what kind of music you're listening to as well as which direction the sub will be facing. Planning, planning, planning--especially if you're interested in more than just turning up the tunes and vibrating to work every day
As far as the dual voice coils go, there are plenty of benefits for them--at a price. Tighter response, higher RMS, check out the RF website, there's great info on there, especially for box building.
Good luck,

i put those same 2 10's in my gf's Alero in a sealed box and they hit Very hard . just give them some good CLEAN power and face them towards the rear hatch or even angle it up towards the glass a little it you will be very happy. if you r worried about people seeing the just make a cloth grill cover like on home spkrs and hide it that way. you'll never know whats under there...

Thanks. Well what i want it good sound quality, not necisarily quanity. I think i would like to run everything off of 1 amp. i have 2 6.5 cerwin vegas, and 2 alpine 6x9's .. which would be better to run off of the amp? My 6x9s are muddy right now.. maybe they need power .. or maybe they suck. or should i just get rid of them all together. And im not sure what ported, sealed, etc means. But i just want good punches, and clear, tight sound. The music im gonna be listening to will be rock.. more softer rock than heavier rock, but there will be some heavier stuff. So yea, thanks for your input.
4 chanel amp
run the 2 6.5's off the front with a high pass filter
run the 2 10's bridged off the rear off the amp on a low pas filter
get rid of the 6x9's it will sound better without.
sealed and ported means the subs enclosure type
sealed = the box is sealed
ported = the box has a port ... like a pvc pipe stuck in it
sealed will be better for you. nice and tight great for rock

Alright, if i wanna run the 2 subs bridged, and my 2 6.5's, what size amp will i be looking at? I would like to find one fairly cheap. maybe like a good one on ebay for a good price or something? Thanks, you've really helped alot. And do you know anything about cerwin vegas? i just got them and im not sure what to think about them. maybe they just need some power. but they are the 6.5" HED 162, if you, or anyone may know anything of this brand, or model. Thanks
well what is the RMS rating for those spkrs. i'd say look for a good 100x4 amp and then just turn the gains down on the front if its too much for them and then when you get better spkrs you will have the power. wait for mowhawk to respond he should know the model number on a good 4 channel ARC audio amp.

The cerwin vegas are 2-50 watts RMS, with 100 peak power watts or whatever. These speakers aren't good enough? I've been looking in my crutchfield mag, and all the 100x4 or so are pretty spendy, but maybe its just the ones im looking at. Thanks again for all your help
What is your amplifier budget?
Crutchfield lists the Kenwood 929 at around $300, so if you were thinking about that one I figure you want to keep whatever you get in the $200-$250 range. Remember the 929 is 2-channel X 150 watt.
Maybe a 4 channel X 50 watt RMS? Then you could do what has already been mentioned above - junk the 6X9's and power your Vegas & subs.

Borderline at best...
That's why I was asking about your $$ limit. I see a lot of 2nd-tier brands (100w X 4) starting at $150, but most of the reputable ones start at $275-$300
Maybe someone else out there can recommend some specific amps for you to look at.

on ebay i've seen the kenwood 929 for like 200.00. and 150W x 2, or 460 x 1 .. so i think i could find a good one pretty cheap on there. i just need some model #'s if anyone has some good amps. THanks
Rockford Fosgate Punch 800.4 is a 2001 model that started out at over $700 retail. They are down to $350 at authorized internet dealers like the Zeb, so you can probably find it even cheaper on eBay.
I don't know much about Visonik, but they have a model
V4208 with 125W X 4, bass boost, fan cooled, remote gain control ****, 2-year warranty, for $265
