Headlight Problems

I am hoping that somebody can make sense because I can't seem to figure it out. I replaced my headlight housing on my passenger side and hooked up my HID's and my High Beams and Low Beams somehow swapped. When I turn on my low beams, my high beams turn on and when I turn on my High beams my High beams turn off and my low beams turn on. My bulb type is 9003 which I think is H4 and it has three prongs. The third prong (top one) is supposed to be for high beams but for some reason power is only going to it when low beams are on and vice versa. I don't know if this is related or not but my right HID only goes on like half the time. BTW all my fuses are good and problem remains with stock bulbs in.

Re: Headlight Problems

Perhaps you switched some wires somewhere when you installed them?

What model is it?

Re: Headlight Problems

3 prongs on an H4 shaped like this | _ |

for simplicity sake, i'm calling 'em 1, 2, and 3, in order from left to right.

1 is the high beam ground
2 is the low beam ground
3 is a shared +12V

You have 'em wired backwards, hence your high beams on when you're only on lows and vice versa..

at least that's how it's wired up on my 2002.. it should be similar on your 2000.. may be a shared ground on pin 3 with a high beam +12 on pin 1 and low beam +12 on pin 2

Re: Headlight Problems

prolly just need to switch the wires around. most civics use a ground switched setup. one prong is always hot in both lo and hi beam modes, the other two prongs switch to ground or power depending on which function is used. you can easily figure out the wire functions with a multimeter to test for voltage. the "top" wire as you call it is the LO wire, it becomes a ground so the lo beams will work in lo beam mode, and becomes hot in hi beam mode so the lo beams do not work. the hid plug is prolly just wired wrong so you need to figure out which two to switch.
