car stereo switch to navigation?

Right now I have a simple kenwood stereo (not the stock deck) on my 03 civic. It doesnt even have mp3 for it, it was in my car when i got it back in 2005, so its getting pretty outdated. How hard will it be to switch to a navigation deck? Can i do this myself or are there alot of cords involved... and if so, how hard would it be to just switch to an updated deck, not navigation? I wanted to order something online and just switch it out.. basically i dont want to pay to get it installed. Thanks

Really depends on how enclied you are to do the job. Insatlling a navi is not much different from installing a regular deck. Just a few extra wires to connect depending on what unit you get. But if you have previously installed regular headunits then a navi shouldnt be very difficult.

I think you have a double din right? Many newer units have nav built in, so you will not need an additional box to hide. Bascially similar to a radio headunit install, but a few extra wires, like a parking brake wire, you will have antenna to mount, typically they will work on the dash etc. And you might have a speed sensor wire, I think.

Re: car stereo switch to navigation?

The speed sensor wire is the hardest wire to hook up because you have to know which one it is under the dash. At least when I installed mine that was the hardest part.
