Re: Components

"cheap" and components don't really go together. components have a speaker and a tweeter separate, 2ways etc, have them combined. components generally require a crossover. 2ways dont. ive got reference 2ways in the front and alpine type-r 3 ways in the back. it sounds pretty good, but then again i dont crank it up so everyone within 3 blocks can hear it.

Re: Components

if you are mentioning kappas, they do need to be pushed hard with an amp, so i would look at something with lower power requirements. you could also get a 2-way for the speakers and add separate tweeters in the front, so longas you run the speakers off an amp and the tweeters off the deck.

Re: Components

So kappas components good?

what about the rears?

any amp will do as long as the rms match?

so is 2 way speakers more of mid? so 3 way is low mid hi...

Re: Components

well amp should provide at least 1/2 to 3/4 of the speaker's max rms input to sound good without underpowering. with an amp, kappas are very impressive, but usually for those who like to play music loud. i would stick with same brand for the rears too for good balance, altho the fronts will provide most of the sound quality, while rears are usually fill and bass.

Re: Components

What do you consider cheap, kappas are not. If you want components, Infinity reference series say are $199 for 6 1/2 and polks are good too, for a sim. price, if you look around you can get them cheaper. If I was you I would stay with good comps in the front, since the rears are more for fill so a decent 2 way for the rear will do a good job. Just so you know I like to stay with the same brand from fronts and rears, I like to match the freq response.

Re: Components

heres a tip. if you find a place that sells last years model (still new and probably just as good) they are usually 50% off. crutchfield.com has this kind of sale occasionally but you have to keep checking or subscribe to their catalog. i remember 2008 infinity components were much cheaper than the current 2009 models at the time.

Re: Components

the kappa perfect is infinity's top of the line speaker. the order goes reference, then kappa, then kappa perfect. also i noticed this year that new speakers are coming with variable input rms wattage specs. does anyone know anything about this and whether it really means you can run them with no problems off lower power (20-25w rms) aftermarket hu without external amp? that ebay price is not bad either.

Re: Components

you could, its worse to underpower speakers than it is to give too much because at higher volumes, the smaller amp wont be able to keep up and speaker will distort. if you get an amp that powerful to match the speakers max rms watts, you prolly would end up turning down the "gain" setting a bit depending on how loud you listen to music. those perfect speakers love power tho they will eat it up lol. just remember if you are getting 4 speakers, each ONE needs the 100w rms, so you would get a 4 channel amp rated 100wx4 rms. but to be honest, even a 75wx4 would work great. the higher power amp, the bigger the power and ground cables you will need.

with a 400 watt 4 channel amp would a 4guage work?

What is a 5 channel amp for?

yeah i rather just get enough power for the speakers...like you said i can always turn the gain down...i hope they sound good. I guess i should get same brand for the rears..

http://cgi.ebay.com/Infinity-KAPPA69...item1c1014d18e

what you think about those for my rears or should i get 3 way rears?

thanks man

8ga is still fine for that. 4ga is good up to 1500w. i was going to get a JL Audio G4500 amp to power my infinity reference components up front and JL C2's in the rear. that would have been 75w RMS to all 4. i'm partial to JL after having Kicker, Alpine, Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood, Rockwood, and some other generics I can't remember. JL FTW!

Re: Components

kappas are good for rears. 5 channel amp just has extra channel if you want to add more like a sub or something but usually not hi power enough so ppl go with a separate sub amp.
