You must be a tru audiophile GOD to even consider purcharing a set of those!! The retail at about $700.
I have the lower model MB Quart DSD components, and they whoop for the price that I paid. Sorry, I don't know much about the Q series, since they are pretty new to the market.

They are great speakers and have been out for a while. A step above those are the QSD's which is what I run. Remember, installation is always the key.

Speakers are a personal choice so all I can say is go listen to a set in a GOOD install and see what you think. As far as my endorsement, until I hear something I like better I will only run MB Quart speakers & subs in my SQ vehicles. I have listened to them all....Focal Utopia, Rainbow Reference ($7,000.00 comp set), OZ Matrix...and I went with MB Quart. I am a professional musician (trumpet player) so I know what live music is supposed to sound like. MB Quart gives me the realism, accuracy, and impact I am looking for.

So yes, IMO I think they are very good speakers.

Great components.. Tweeter needs to be attenuated a wee bit as it's a bit Harsh..but comes with an attenuater in the croosover so set it to -4DB's and you're all set... Great Midbass, Smooth very detailed midrange..Only thing I have against them is that they are known to have a rather narrow sound stage because of the tweeters.. but a Relly good install can easily overcome that...

SQ Civic.. I Know what you're talking about.. But the Rainbow references with a referance quality amp (flat freq resp, 2000+ damping factor and 0.002% distortion the speakers have a Broad soundstage, as transparent as can be and near perfect frequency response from 60-25Khz..you must have heard em in a poor install that was not equalized properly to it's surroundings....

I am very aware of what is considered a good install and what is not. I heard them in an excellent install. I'm just not taken in by the incredible price and the mentality that goes along with them, that being if they cost that much then they must sound incredible. Of course they sound great, but they don't sound that much better than a lot of other speakers I have heard and not as good in some cases. Bottom line is that there is no justification whatsoever for that type of a price tag.

MB Quart tweets are not harsh if installed properly. The tweets do not need to be mounted on axis like most other comp sets. When installed slightly off axis they are wonderful with a huge soundstage and great imaging. With the QSD line, no attenuation of the tweets is needed.

well the $7000 tag is Justified..the spakers take about a month to make to VERY VERY VERY exact tolerences..are tested and tested again and tuned (basicall balancing cone weight so that everything is 100% Equally distributed..

The Price warrants the output.. because the difference in sound between $200 components and $700 Q series isn't that huge either.. but to achieve near sonic perfection and not Damn good sound..is a diff..

Same with amps.. Decent amp $200.. difference between the sound of a kenwood and Say Zapco or Arc Audio amp.. not much.. but it's enough for the price tag.. engineering costs alotta $$$.. I mean some Studio speakers recording studios use run $10g's a pair ....it's nuts..about mounting the tweets off axis.. I know about that for MBQ's but they still tend to have some harsh peaks...Most likely related to reflections on panels that the tweets are on-axis to..

Also.. A GREAT tip SQ.. under your dash.. that big open area where there's all the wiring and such.. Block it off with 1" thick medium density foam(generic foam found at any place that sells material).(will absorb alot of sound and stop underdash reflections and resonaces.. also add a das Cover.. Carpet and Velour work best..makes a big difference with imaging..the mosre sound Absorption your car has..the bette rit will sound because the car will be virtually noise and reflection free....

Cheers

the References yeah... the Rainbow Pro's (better than Focal Utopia's, smoother tweeter than MBQ Q's) can be had for $550 if you know where to look..

No, if the Quarts are installed properly they are not harsh. I have heard plenty of wonderful systems using the Quarts.

No, I don't think the RR are the greatest speakers made and they are not worth $7,000 to me no matter how hard you try to rationalize it.

All of this is the same old stuff that has been told over and over and over again on every car audio forum and I no longer want to take the time to respond to it or rehash it. It's really pointless to me so lets just agree to disagree.

I have already addressed every point of reflection and absorption in my car including under the dash. My latest project is fabricating a new headliner.

Have fun with this stuff guys.

I'm out of here!
