01 Civic Sub/Amp install
01 Civic Sub/Amp install
Hi all, I'm new to the forum and looking for someone to point me in the right direction.
I own a 2001 Civic EX Coupe with the original head unit (cd player). I don't have any speaker modifications, or really any modifications at all. I do have a subwoofer with matching 1 channel amplifier that I would like to install. Is this possible with the original head unit? Anyone have any tips for me, or any links to any similar threads?
Thanks,
Mark

Re: 01 Civic Sub/Amp install
yeah, usually its possible if your amp has speaker level inputs. but its not gonna sound very good and there is no way to really adjust the sub level or frequency. my friend had a similar setup and it sounded terrible. aftermarket decks are so cheap now its worth upgrading to something better that can play mp3s and have more sound controls and rcas for clean amp connections.

Thats a good point, Gearbox, but I want to try and hook it up without purchasing too much. I want to know how (if its possible at all) to plug in the amp to the back of the deck. Will I need an adapter?, etc.
Thanks,
Mark

You will also have a delay wverytime you start your car the when the subs and amp actually turn on. Not a big deal, but kind of annoying. the first time I did this (in an old blazer) I ended up doing more damage then what it was worth. I fried the right side of the head unit, as well as the speakers on the right side of my blazer. Buy a cheap aftermarket head unit. Its worth it in the end.

with how dirt cheap aftermarket decks are $100-200 can get you a great deck even alpine with tons of features and amp connections. its worth it in the long run cause youre not gonna be happy with the stock deck.
Re: 01 Civic Sub/Amp install
If your heart is set on installing it then you will need a line out converter. Pretty cheap, you will splice off the original radio's speaker leads, then the other side of the converter you can plug in the rca to the amp, or run speaker wires if the amp has speaker inputs as well, cheaper amps do. As for the amp turn on, depending on the amp some have sensor that detect signal from the speakers or will have to wire a sep. lead like switched lead I believe.
A cheap way to get bass and keep the stock unit is a amped box like from infinity the basslink, which will have the hook ups pretty much ready to go.

If you really want to go the cheaper way, then get one of these:

You can buy it at walmart for about $20.
I agree with the above comments, buy an aftermarket deck. It doesnt even have to be new. Buy one used.
