Kicker 08ZX500.1 or 08ZX750.1
I have a 2004 Honda Civic Ex 5-Speed and I was thinking about purchasing either the Kicker 08ZX500.1 or 08ZX750.1 for my car. My question is does the Kicker 750 put a whole lot more strain on my electrical system than the 500. Right now all my electrical is stock. I have 4 gauge power wire and ground thats it. I have read that people who put the 750.1 in their Civic it made the lights dim and I don't want that to happen to my car.

Re: Kicker 08ZX500.1 or 08ZX750.1
you can have a 2000w amp and the strain will be based on how loud you turn up the music and what you have the gain set at. in theory, if you have the same sub and set up each amp correctly, the sub should pull the same amount of juice from either amp. unless the sub needs more than the 500 can provide, then yes, the 750 will put out more.
Re: Kicker 08ZX500.1 or 08ZX750.1
The reason I was asking this is because I have one Kicker Comp Vr 12 inch and thinking about getting another one in the future so therefore I was thinking about getting the 750 now so later on I can push two of them so I just wanted to make sure it would push them for the upcoming future but I don't have enough money to upgrade my electrical system. Would it be okay for me to run the 750 with one comp vr now temporarily and just turn down the gain. Does the gain on the amp adjust the amount of power it goes to it thus the more gain the more it puts a strain on my electrical system? thanks

Re: Kicker 08ZX500.1 or 08ZX750.1
manual says to fuse at 80A. you won't be able to supply that much to the amp and run your car off the stock alternator. it only puts out 70A max.
Re: Kicker 08ZX500.1 or 08ZX750.1
the 500 says 60a while the 750 is 80a so I should get the 500 than it should be okay than right, since my alternator is rated at 70a. If i go with the 500 what are you guys opinion on the Kicker 500.1 and the Alpine MRP-500. Both are rated at 500 rms at 2ohm

Man You are going to stress your charging system with any amp. the amp you want is only 750 rms. I have run a 1500rms mono amp and a 680rms 4 ch amp for 1 year and have had no problems except lights dim if the amp clips out. I think your headlights will dim with either amp because the reason is the battery can not discharge fast enough to keep up.

Re: Kicker 08ZX500.1 or 08ZX750.1
you've got it backwards. the battery can put out hundreds of amps instantly if needed and a source is capable and a big enough fuse is there. the reason the headlights dim is because the stock alternator can't put out enough juice to keep the battery charged up. also because the demands put on the system by an amp hooked straight to the battery don't go through the ELD, the ECU doesn't know to kick up the output of the alternator. just put a multimeter on the battery and check the voltage with the stereo turned up and you'll see the voltage drop i'm talking about. only way to fix that is to get more out of your alternator.

I have about 3000 watts (max), a 4 channel amp with 600rms and a mono amp running 2 subs with 1500rms, 2 subs, and 2 amps in my car right now, and have no problems with strain yet. I havent had any issues thus far.
