removing HU (I read the DIY)

Ok I was trying to remove my HU

I've taken out my Cigarette lighter before to hook wire my neons and everything, and the DIY for removing the HU says to unscrew 2 screws above the cigarette lighter space right? then it seems like it skips a step.. what I'm supposed to do? by the way, I couldn't unscrew them they are screwed EXTREMELY HARD. Am I supposed to pry the console really hard after I unscrew them? I tried it without unscrewing and I'm afraid of damaging anything..

I just did mine this past weekend and it was a bit confusing at first. once you get the cigarette lighter thing taken off, there are 2 screws underneath the there. They are silver. I used a socket type connector on my screw driver so that I wouldn't mess up the screw head. once those are out, you have to pry the whole console thing out. A/c controls and everything. there are several clips holding it in so be patient and find something that won't scratch up the vinyl or whatever material that is. it will come out. I wish I could have taken pictures, but my mom had the camera with her.

I have been trying to get up the courage to put a new head unit in my 2k1 LX sedan. What did you use to pry with? I keep looking at the center console and wondering how in the world I will be able to pry it out with a screwdriver (even a small one) without scratching it. I have done lots of stereo installs, but they were all in much older cars.

I used a really thin flathead with a towel. I left one little dent at the bottom, but that's because I was getting frustrated and being careless. take your time and be patient. it will come out.

btw, the dent will come out over time. just don't scratch it because then you are screwed

Thanks! I'll give that a try as soon as I get my HU ordered. Just took a look at your pix...your Civic is sooo black! I got the white one myself...and now I know what my splashguards will look like if I ever take them out of the box and put them on.
