here is a question to stump him, mowhawk, can you explain in detail why 99% of our civics do not need a new alternator who are running high output systems?

the answer is REALLY simple......

besides, you cant really stump anyone ever. its either an impossible question, or easily answerable through a small bit of research...... or purely opinion.

what is the meaning of life?

i was gonna ask what happens if you hook the outputs of one amp to the signal inputs of a second amp, but man, this is hard to come up with a hard question!

It's always nice to have some laughs on my lunch time... and to see some people with a sense of humor.

On the serious side though... why DON'T we need a new alt when we're crankin with high output system?

If a cat always lands on its feet, and a piece of buttered toast always lands on the butter side, what if someone attached a piece of buttered toast, butter side up, on a cat's back, then dropped the cat?

how much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
to the micro meter who has the longest x-max? who cares

is all personal prefferance, i do like to see people asking questions. that actually have some meaning instead of being lazy. "what ohm load can i get from 4 dvc 4 ohm coils?" take 5 min out of your life and figure it out.

there are two posts about this.... they are both pasted to teh top of this forum, so grab a cushion to sit on, and a bowl of popcorn, cause its gonna take a REALLY, REALLY ....... REALLY long time to get through it all. some links to 10+ page threads on carsound

its definitely a long and education read tho.

the jist of it is tho that teh battery ahndles all current draw teh alternator doesnt, and is such a fantastic reserve of electrons that together your E-system is stable. DONT (plz) start teh argument here, post there, ill argue there

It's not hard at all.. Most in car monitors have the standard 3 RCA cable setup.. just but a converter at Radioshack or have a Video card that has standard video outputs...

Why do people buy the biggest SUV they can??.. it's all marketing.. kost Xmax Ratings don't state wether it's peak or linear xmax anyways...Also..people think if they have a sub with 17mm Xmax and a 200 Watt amp it will be really loud because it moes more air..which is generally false.. most long excursion subs have low sensitivity because of their stiffened suspension that is need to keep the Voice Coils Linear..More Xmax generally means higher potential output.. but at the same time..companies like Audiobahn have 15" subs with massive excurstion and HUGE 5" wide surrounds.. basically it's a 12" cone with huge surround...

What factors most reflect SPL output is a subs BL factor (motor/magnet strnngth) MMS (Moving mass/ cone weight) X-max.. and cone area (cone area in CM^2 x (xmax divided by 10) = a subs displacement or how much air it will actually move.. which is why subs with tall "High roll" surrounds and high excursion generally have more output the subs with fatty surrounds..

Cheers

Very Easy answer.. because an amps damping factor and THD Ratings means pretty much squat for subs.. any amp with an effective damping factor of 25 and less than 4% THD with sound the same as any other subwoofer amp..the only really differences is wattage...and Crossover slopes..

...Well that's all an iffy matter.. For the most part it's because music is Dynamic and does not replesent a constant load on your electrical system..also..most people high very high power systems don't have it cranked all the way most of the time.. For a 3 decibel gain ( 10db's to a human is what's interpreted as twice as lou to your brain) you must double the power... so say you ax SPL is 140 at full power with a 600 watt amp.. at 131 DB's (still high risk for hearing damage) that's 1/3 the power so only 200 Watts.. Mind you someone cranking a huge system will result in your car stalling.. battery dying.. Possibly ECU Frying.. and alotta bad stuff..

Cheers

Nice mohawk , impressive but you didnt answerone Q .. where do old stereos go when they die .. yes there is a hevan i have had to go there and revive some old ones for customers.. and X-max cause people think that numbers mean something . .. most of the time they do if your gonna do custom , DB or DB+,,, but of every day applications to just boom they mean crap ... amp choice matters more than subs in my opinion ... if you get a cerwin vega stroker 18" beat sub - it can handle being directly pulgged into a wall every month for probably about 4 years now .. imagine putting the baja amp that circuit has that i think pushes around 100 watts ... to taht sub .. A - you amp will die quickly when you turn it up, B your sub could dies cause your sending square sound waves into it ( thats if it doesnt burn up from the sound being turned up) ...

when did we get a sorta net nanny for swears ???

Well X-max is mostly a Mareting number unless you're into competition or like Really loud bass..in which case X-Max is one of 2 Factors that determine displacement which Displacement. and BL factor combines with power is what give your your Actual output ..

Old Radio's go the same place dead TV's and all the 8tracks went.. Oldschool party heaven. Clipped wattage to a sub isn't as bad as clipped wattage to a regular woofer or specially a tweet.. a subs thicker guage wiring on the VC is much less affected by clipping but only to a certain degree... you can easily blow most tweeter with 1 clipped watt... run 200 clipped watts to a sub that's rated for 500WRMS.. Chances are you get muddy crappy bass...But there's a chance of the VC's overheating and eventually the VC Former melting..and frying..

Cheers
