Does the shape of the box matter for a subwoofer
Re: Does the shape of the box matter for a subwoofer
shape of the box matters, theres a mathematical equation for this like size by power by amount of airspace being pushed, your not going to use a box that is say 4 feet wide by 2 feet high and deep for one 10" sub. JL makes great subwoofers btw, but like JL a lot of companies have certain dimensions for their subwoofers to give off the best precise bass.

the shape does not matter one damn bit....the airspace is what matters....if the sub calls for a square foot the box can be 12x12x12 or 5x5x69.12.....it does not matter how you get the square foot, as long as you get it.

i sure am glad i came to this forum....to correct the plethora of of bad advice and info....

It doesn't make a lick of difference what the box looks like. Hell, you could do an infinite baffle setup where you just build a 'wall' in your car. Kind of like turning the entire trunk into an enclosure for your sub(s).
What matters is volume (airspace) of the box, type of enclosure (ported, sealed, reverse baffle, infinite baffle, etc), direction of the subs, and for ported enclosures, the type of port and tuning frequency.
Shape means nothing.

I just want to confirm this piece of good advice.
