Component Speakers, Stock HU
Component Speakers, Stock HU
Hi everyone,
I've been searching the forums for an answer to this question but I'm having a little trouble finding a good answer. So here goes:
I've got a 2004 EX Sedan, and it has stock speakers and HU. I'm looking to get some new speakers (no new HU, no amp, no sub) just to improve my sound clarity overall. Component speakers seem to really appeal to me... I'd really like to have some separate tweeters for those highs.
I'm really asking what component speakers ($150 or less) you guys think will work best in the front of my car with the STOCK HU, i.e. without an amp.
I've mostly been looking between the Infinity 6020cs and the Alpine Type-S components. I see that the Alpines have a passive crossover as opposed to the Infinitys. The Infinitys appear to be a bit too bright, though... Wondering your opinions. I just want a well-rounded, sensitive speaker that will perform well without an amp. Also, the Alpines and Infinitys appeal to me because their tweeters look pretty stock, which is the look I'm going for. Nothing goofy like the Pioneer tweeters look.
Thanks!

Re: Component Speakers, Stock HU
Im running Infinity Reference 5 1/4 speakers up front and 6x9 Kappas in the back. I ran them for a small bit off my stock HU..very choppy. As in you run more of a risk of hurting the speakers by running them off the stock hu then you do say running to much power. Honestly, If you really intend to upgrade your speakers without even a aftermarket hu, don't even waste your money. My stock speakers with the stock HU were louder than my aftermarkets simply because they require more power to run them.

Re: Component Speakers, Stock HU
i would not recommend any aftermarket speaker to be used with the stock deck. aftermarket deck with 18+wrms will be better, but still not ideal. you want an amp for a good set of speakers, esp if you want components. they will sound like garbage with the 5-10w power from the factory deck (most speakers are rated to handle well over 60w).
Re: Component Speakers, Stock HU
yea you can't just do that and expect good sound quality its not that simple. you need to invest in a good amp and wires . i would also go with a after market head unit for the best possible sound clarity .
Hi there, I know what you mean. You just need cleaner sound from the stock unit. I recommend a set of coaxial speakers for the rear deck. I have a pair of Pioneer's TS-A6963R on the rear deck and the sound is way better than the one from the stock speakers and no problems at all with the power of the SU. Greetings

Re: Component Speakers, Stock HU
I'd rather run an aftermarket deck with stock speakers over the stock unit with aftermarket speakers. I ran a high end deck with stock civic speakers for like 2 years or so. People were shocked when I told them that they were stock speakers.
Now I run infinity kappa coaxials up front, with stock rear speakers. I even disconnected my 2 front stock tweeters because the high frequencies are too much.
Don't under estimate what a HU can do. I look at it this way. The HU is the source where the sound comes from, so if you are getting bad sound come out from the HU, no speaker in the world is going to fix that.
Imo, you don't need rear speakers. Good front speakers are good enough.
Get a HU first, then some decent front speakers, and if you need more, go from there.

Re: Component Speakers, Stock HU
I have the 6020CS. They are phenomenal! Also never run aftermarket speakers with stock head unit. The stock head unit is so bad that if you keep your stock speakers and replace the head unit, your stock speakers will be 10x better.
