No sound from 3 out of 4 speakers on 2005 Civic VP
No sound from 3 out of 4 speakers on 2005 Civic VP
I have a 2005 Civic VP coupe, with factory head unit/speakers (no tweeters in door for this setup). I bought the car used, and as long as I've had it, only the rear deck speaker on the passenger side produces any sound when the CD player/radio is on. I've tried hooking up a 2000 Civic EX factory CD player, with the same results. I haven't tried an aftermarket unit (I'm missing the wiring harnesses for both a Pioneer and Panasonic head unit, so no luck with that for now), but I suspect that if I did, I would get the same results. None of the speakers appear to be blown or have any damage. I've also tried hooking up different speakers to the factory-installed clips that the stock speakers plug into, and the only one that produces any sound is the passenger-side rear deck speaker. So, as far as I can tell, the speaker wiring is probably bad somewhere between the factory head unit harness and the speakers. Either it's cut or grounding out somewhere, I believe. Is there any way to check this, perhaps with a multimeter or similar device? The way I see it, my options are: 1) trace each speaker wire, check for damage, and repair them, 2) check each speaker wire and replace any that need replacing, or 3) just run new speaker wire to the rear deck and doors. Any suggestions? I'd like to be finished with this problem once and for all, but I hate to go through the hassle of messing with all that wire or running new wire. Perhaps I'm overlooking something? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

You would hear sound even if the speakers were damaged, it would just sound like ****. I wouldnt waste time measuring the wires as you would hear something if there was any voltage.
Plug the wires from directly behind the stereo to a speaker and see if it works. If it works that way, run new wires from the head unit to speaker. Who knows what the previous owner did.

Another option may be to pay someone to either trace the wiring from harness to speakers and find the problem, or just run new wire. I'm thinking this would be labor-intensive, and therefore expensive, though. Any ideas?
