Sub install help
Ok so just got a sub,
Its on the way delivery wise.
All i need to know is what would be the best way to route the wires, i was thinking throught the center console.. taking my rear seats out and threading it throught them. Or putting it down the side rail. Also how do i get a connect to the battery i.e throught center console is there an easy quick way like a hole in the body.
cheers,
Tom

Re: Sub install help
route ur power wire thru the firewall (pull up the carpet on passenger side..don't worry, there is velcro holding it there) u will see an access hole to run wires thru. then route it along the inside panel along the passenger side all the way back to the trunk or wherever u have the amp.
route the rca's down the center console or down the drivers side panel to the amp. its easy.

Re: Sub install help
Yeah, definitely keep the power wires seperate from all signal wires and make sure you take your time with it. It's hard to break panels but at the same time it's very easy to break them. As for the power wire, there should be atleast one empty gommet on both sides of the firewall, driver and passenger, depending on what trim you have and extra options. Like Balla said it's easy and if you have any more questions or concerns please feel free to post back here.
Just curious, what all did you get and from where?

Got some Pioneer 6x9's and door speakers... will be good enough for me.
So as for running throught teh firewall and side panel... will i have to remove my back seats?
I was going to run the speaker cables through the console and under the carpet and then were the carpet ends underneath the rear seats i was gonna run over that and to the boot
Will this work?
And just for the power cable how hard is it to get it into the boot i.e what panels need to come off?
Thanks,

Re: Sub install help
the back bottem seat pops rite off its cliped on there then run that under the back seat.it will work and look better if you run everything under the side paneling those also pop off.

Re: Sub install help
I'd run the wires down the sides of the interior panel...that would be easier than running it under the carpet...besides...if you have wire under the back seats you could possibly pinch the wire causing you to short a speaker sometime in the future...but i say possibly..not likely that will happen....just give yourself enough slack to work with.
Re: Sub install help
Yeah x2 what Balla said, you want to make sure you have enough slack. Also I have my wires running through the center console and I haven't had any problems but I only have it that way b/c I have wire running down both sides of the car. Just take your time and if you bought an amp kit you will plenty of wire. Just becareful with the cheaper amp kits as the RCA's temp to fall apart and the remote turn-on tends to be a lil more fragile and may break when u try to bend it. Mount all components securely to something.
I would suggest mounting the amp to the back of the back seat like lowlife has it and if you plan on having stuff in the trunk with the box I would invest in grills and possibly a way to isolate your other stuff like a cargo net. To stop the box from sliding use some L brackets from Lowes. If the box is heavy invest in the higher grade brackets as they won't break when you are taking turns fast and stomp on the brake and gas. Get some drywall screws at about 1"-2" long and screw the bracket to the false floor and then to the box.
All of that can be avoided and a lot of members will tell you it's not necessary but it's better to be safe then to have a piece of ur jack go straight through you sub and damaging or possibly destroying it. Hopefully it sounds good and Enjoy your thump.

Re: Sub install help
yea basically unzip the backer material screw down the wood to the seat frame then the amps to the wood.this particular setup took me awhile to position properly from lack of room i evan cut some plastic off the panel.tomj333 this should help i evan ran the wires for all four of my cross overs to the trunk.

Re: Sub install help
thats xactly how i did mine. mdf board behind inside the back seat wit some mdf spacers to "raise" the amp over the cross bars. it looks clean that way.
Re: Sub install help
usually when amps overheat youve got a faulty ground, gains too high causing a clipped signal, or youve got no airflow around the amp whatsoever.
I should of been a little more descriptive lol clearly youve got a problem but i meant that it takes something seriously wrong to overheat an amp these days.

Re: Sub install help
The ground is rarely the case for overheating. It's caused by a few things. You have the subs wired at the wrong hom leve causing too much strees on the amp, usually like a 1ohm system on a 2ohm stable amp for example, you don't have a class D amp but treat it like one, stress the amp alot and have no breathing room for air to get in like having it under your seats, or Just having an amp thats been thru a lot and treating it like its brand new top of the line stuff.
The reason I say it's not a ground issue is due to the fact that U can have 3000w to an amp but if your ground can only support 20w thats all the amp will be able to use. I can imagine if you have a loose ground causing it to constantly turn on and off and frying electrical things but overheating isn't the main issue there any more. Just mount the amp in a correct location, also never on a sub box, and make sure everything is wired correctly and never push the amp too much and your amp will give you yrs of performance in return without diminishing sound quality either.
