Amp Power Troubleshoot
Amp Power Troubleshoot
Hey guys. Yall have helped me before and I need some help again. So I just got a new Pioneer GM-D8400M amplifier for my Kicker L7 sub. But I can't my amp any power. Here's what I know:
- The amp works because i tested it on a friend's car.
- My RCAs are hooked up to the right holes in the amp and the HU.
- My remote wire is hooked up to the HU and the amp.
- When I touch the power wire to the ground wire, I get sparks (so I assume this means it is grounded...)
- The power is coming directly from the battery.
Any help would be awesome.

Re: Amp Power Troubleshoot
did u turn ur subwoofer output on? its in teh controls of ur headunit
recheck the remote wire if its connected properly
check if u blew the fuse or not.

Re: Amp Power Troubleshoot
I grounded it to the screw that holds the backseats down.
(in a '02 Civic Ex 4DR)
The Output is on in my HU
I'm pretty sure the remote wire is in the right place
My fuses are good on the amp and of the power wire.
Thanks...

Re: Amp Power Troubleshoot
Your ground is likely your problem....Never ground to a stock bolt....Stereo install 101! Ground your amp to your trunk pan!

^yea cuz most of the time, there is is paint on the bolt/grounding area.
try to sand down the grounding area then put ur -wire on it
currently, does ur amp power up? or is it unpowered when you put ur key in and turn it the ACCII

Re: Amp Power Troubleshoot
I sanded down the area before i did anything with my ground wire...
- plus, doesn't it mean its grounded when its sparks with the power wire?
and no, the amp doesn't power up, even when the car is fully on...

Re: Amp Power Troubleshoot
^there are only
since you were able to create the spark, then its a power issue...
1. defective headunit remote wire (problem could be from the remote wire
2. try to find another ground. (but if ur ground wire made a spark with ur power wire, throw this probability out)
3. defective amp. something could have happened or you could have shorted something out during trading/shipping/installing period.

Re: Amp Power Troubleshoot
did you disconnect the battery before installing this amp? I'm assuming you didn't, because you said you saw a spark. If you didn't disconnect the amp, you could have blown your amp already.

Re: Amp Power Troubleshoot
Aight, thanks for all the response...
Yep. I disconnected it. The sparks occurred after the wires were disconnected.
And when you say defective remote wire, how can this be fixed?
thanks

Re: Amp Power Troubleshoot
are you sure you have the correct remote wire tapped? test this by applying a 12V test signal to the amp from a spare battery. or even the car battery if you have a long enough wire. see if the amp turns on. if not, amp is dead. if so, amp is fine and remote wire is not hooked to the right wire on the harness.
