speakers and amp

Hi

Just need advice on installing an amplifier to my Honda civic si 2003 in-car speakers.

I have four JL Audio speaker, 75 rms i think (2 front, 2 back) and one amplifier JL 300/4 amp (four channel).

Head Unit -> amplifier - > speakers

Should I use the standard speaker (comes with the car) wire to connect to the amplifier or should I use more thicker/power speaker wire?

Does it make a different if I use standard speaker wire or off-shelf speaker wire?

Where is the standard speaker wire located in the car? At what point is it best to grab the speaker wire?

Where should I place the amplifier? In the back boot?

Thanks in advance, any advice would help.

Re: speakers and amp

I'd change the speaker wire up. That way you can run it to the speakers from where ever you put the amp. It will make a difference using thicker gauged speaker wire or the stock weeny wire. Trace the speaker wire from the speaker. Amplifier location depends on how big the amp is and personal preference of where you want it. Put it under one of the front seats or in the boot. Just make sure to run power wire as far away from any speaker or signal cable running from the head unit to the amp.

There should be a DIY in the DIY section about this kind of stuff.

Re: speakers and amp

you should be good running "speed wire" its a strand of purple, green, white, grey all pos, neg in one bundle bout the size of 4 ga wire. run that by your rca's and tap into the stock wiring behind the headunit. thats the easiest and most efficient way.

Re: speakers and amp

I'd change the speakers' wires... I'm telling you by personnal experience.. You can put the amp in the boot if you think its powerful enough...
Good luck with it!
