Amp Power help
Amp Power help
Hey everyone.
I just got an amp and thought I hoked it up correctly, but it didnt turn on. So I need some help...
Here are my specs:
I have a 2002 civic lx sedan... I have a pioneer DEH-P6000UB... I have a Kenwood 9103D amp... I have a Kicker L7 subwoofer... I have a 4 AWG amp kit by audiopipe... Metra dash kit and wiring harness adapter.
Here's what I have done:
> Hooked the power wire from the battery, to the fuse holder with a fuse, to the other part of the power wire, then to a copper connector, then into the amp's power spot.
> Hooked the ground wire to the bolt that holds in the back seats, then into the amp's ground spot. The wire is less than 2 feet.
> Hooked the remote turn on, which was located in the same wire as the RCA's, to the blue and white wire coming from my head unit's wiring adapter, then into the remote lead spot on the amp.
> Hooked up the RCA's into the bottom two output holes in the HU, labeled SW for the subwoofer, then into the RCA line-in holes of the amp. Hooked speaker wire from the sub to the amp.
After all is done, I turn the car on, crank the subwoofer up from the HU, but do not see any power going into the amp or the subwoofer...
Any suggestions would be great,
Thanks, Meiseman

Re: Amp Power help
the fact that it's not turning is incidicates tat you DIDNT hook it up correctly.

1. the ground wire. make sure you have bolted it on to a METAL surface...bolting it on to a seat doesnt do much if there is paint in the way, and no metal on metal is touching
2. ur headunit remote turnon wire.....its ONE wire...i dont know where u are gettting two. all the headunits ive installed is only a single wire. if somehow u have 2 wires, its only one of them.
3. it is possible that ur headunit's subwoofer output is turned off. go into ur headunit settings and make sure its turned on.

Re: Amp Power help
also, before checking all that, i would check to see if ur amp is turned on when you turn ur car on. if the amp is turned on, then the problem lies with ur headunit and that connection.
if ur headunit doesnt turn on, then its a ground/power/electrical connection. (there should be an LED on ur amp that indicates it is receiving power or its on when the cars on.

1. My ground wire is connected on the bolt that holds the seats, not the seat itself. It touches the metal of the car.
2. Yes, i have one wire, a wire that is blue and white. Sorry to make it confusing.
3. Unless there is a special button on the HU or something, my settings when the HU is on is that the sub is on.
Thanks for the help!
Re: Amp Power help
Car audio is one of my few specialties. What sleepy was saying about the ground is right. Just make sure where the ground is located there is nothing between the terminal and the body. Strip all paint and make sure its the last thing the bolt goes through before into the body.
Secondly, do any lights come on on the amp itself? There should be lights for Power and Protect and maybe another. Are they on at all times? Do they come on at all? Is Protect lit up?
And finally find the manual for your headunit and look through all the menu options. There may be a subwoofer setting that needs to be turned on for the preouts to begin working.

Re: Amp Power help
I just downloaded the manual and nice choice in headunits. I have a similar one by Alpine. Anyway on page 27 it shows how to turn your subwoofers on. If you're too lazy to look it up I will provide the info for you. Easiest way is press the SW button on the headunit to bring up the subwoofer settings. Not sure exactly how it is but the first thing that should come up, had you not played with this setting before should be like Subwoofer OFF. The manual says something about pressing multi-control to turn on. You may know what that is, but from there you are also able to change some of the settings such as the lpf and bass boost. Hopefully this is all that is wrong and you will be able to thump down the road. Good Luck.
