01 Civic Dash Lights Out
01 Civic Dash Lights Out
Hey,
I got done installing a new CD player in a 01 Civic with a wiring harness. The CD player works fine but all the dash lights, includes a/c and speedometer, went out. Its weird, because the only things that come on when you turn on the lights are the left and right blinker lights, which just remain solid (no flashing). I had someone check it out (I presume they checked the fuses) and he said he's not sure what the problem is. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem with an 2005 civic I used to own. I installed a cd player and afterwards, all the gauge lights were out. My taillights also didn't work so make sure you check those too, if your taillights are out, its a fuse. I never did figure out what was wrong, I eventually cut one of the wires from the cd player harness and spliced it to a ground and it made them work.
Re: 01 Civic Dash Lights Out
its possible you might have a different problem then what I was dealing with. I know that after I grounded the wire I cut and got the lights working, the dimmer no longer worked. So I'm kinda thinking the dimmer got damaged somehow while hooking up the cd player.
I wish I knew what to tell ya to fix the problem, I went through alot of forums too but never came up with an answer. good luck with your car.

disconnect all the orange wires, check the "small light" fuse. if all fuse are fine, you mightve fried the illumination circuit. did you hear any pops or see/smell smoke when it happened?
Re: 01 Civic Dash Lights Out
just checked all fuses, including small light fuse and all look good and I also put the stock radio back in to no avail. I most likely did kill the illumination circuit mentioned. how would I go about fixing this problem?

im not exactly sure, you could try replacing a bulb and see if it works, but most likely all the pieces will have to be replaced, the climate controls, buttons, and cluster. its gonna suck. check ebay and junkyards and you may be able to get everything for around $100
Re: 01 Civic Dash Lights Out
OK, well I really appreciate your help, but before I go ahead and take a look at ordering these things, I just tested the cigarette lighter real quick and that isn't working either. now what is causing this (same problem or perhaps different one)?
Re: 01 Civic Dash Lights Out
check fuses 19/20 in the under-the-hood box and fuse 18 in the under-the-dash box. Also, make sure the ignition is in ACC/ON(IG1) - the lighter (accessory) only gets power then.
Re: 01 Civic Dash Lights Out
Hey, so I had a similar problem, on my 99 Civic, opened up a new thread, because I was experiencing my drive lights going out when I turned on the headlights and the same lack of lights in the instrument panel and climate control, yet the pre-installed stereo worked fine. Turns out that I went to a junkyard, pulled an old dimmer switch, replaced it, and now everything works fine, climate control lights included.
When you did this, did you disconnect the battery terminal before installing the CD player?
My recommendation would be to head to a junkyard, find a similar year Civic and tear out the old dimmer switch (most junkyards should allow you to do this for less than $5). Could quite possibly be the cheapest fix yet, haha.
