2003 civi aftermarket keyless install question
2003 civi aftermarket keyless install question
buddy of mine has a 2003 civic. bestbuy & circuit city told him he would have to have a spare key left in the car at all time because there is a chip in the key and the car wont open without the "original" key being at least in the car "oh" and theres an additional fee to install in this car and you'll have to go to the dealer and get a spare, cause he doesnt have a spare key to leave in the car. now here's my question this sounds like to me there trying to make a buck off a guy who doesn't know much about cars. it it neccasary to have the "chip key" in the car to unlock/lock the door. i know you have to have it to start the car but to unlock it seems questionable. please someone correct me if im wrong id hate to see my friend spend X amount of dollars on something that he and i could install ourselves and for-go this chipped key mess. thx in advance for your help

Re: 2003 civi aftermarket keyless install question
i looked into doing the OEM keyless entry and it was more expensive than just doing a viper alarm. so i put a viper on my 02 LX. i don't have to have a key in the car. the lock/unlock solenoids will work without a key in the lock. they're nuts.

lol. yeah, they're wanting the $$$....unless the chip in my key is able to be recognized by the car from 50+ yards away! haha
Re: 2003 civi aftermarket keyless install question
Usually when then ask for an extra key for the chip, its for the autostart function. But, if they have a good bypasser, they wouldnt need your extra key.
