Speaker size question?

I have an 03 civic ex coupe and have searched the site and found out my speaker sizes:

tweeters- 13mm but with a little work can fit 1 inch
front door - 6.5
rear deck - 6x9 but have to fit over the truck bars

Ok here is my question can I fit 6 3/4 in my front speakers and if I took it to a shop how much do you guys think they will charge me to install gas shocks so I can install a speaker with a larger coil?

the gas shocks were in reference to the trunk arms, so that he could install bigger rear deck speakers.
in referecne to the OP, the trunk arms are known to get in the way of sub boxes, not speakers. so gas shocks enable you to put a bigger sub box in the trunk. in order for good size 6x9's youll need to relocate the torsion bar in the trunk. but most 6x9s will fit anyway.

and why do you want 6.75" speakers? theres plenty of excellent 6.5"s components out there. in fact,i just ordered polk momo's for $155 and i didnt have to pay anyone to dremel out my door.
in addition, a few 6.5" speakers have a hard time fitting because of the funny non-circle shape of the stock speakers hole. So many people have to dremel out part just to fit 6.5 ones. So your guna pay out of your *** to have a shop take apart your door, dremel out your speaker hole a good .4", then install or fabricate a .75" spacer to ensure it doesnt hit the window. thats all granted the speakers doesnt have a bigger basket/magnet depth than the average 6.5"
and why do you want rears? why not get a good sub?
n by the way, do it yourself, youll save a lot of money. Especially if you get 6.75" speakers, your gunna need an amp.

Re: Speaker size question?

and the tweeter can take any size for the most part. it all comes down to the mounting hardware supplied with it.

First thanks for your reply very helpful I was looking at getting some kenwood speakers and found a deal on some 6.75 that is all I am fine with getting 6.5. I use my trunk alot and don't want subs talking up some space that is all.

Here is what I will add.

KDC-x890 receiver
KFC-x170 6.5
KFC-x692 6x9
KAC-x40 amp
and have not picked out the tweeter yet.

Im really into car audio n I enjoy helping for it
do you use your spare tire? Cause if you dont you could remove that and use that space as an enclosure for a sub, possibly like a 15 incher.
also once you decide on speakers, check ebay for BNIB products. Youll find them dirt cheap. I get most of my audio equipment form there for a good $100 or more UNDER retail. As long as you know what your looking for. But if you want a warranty and are willing to pay a lil more, check
onlinecarstereo(.)com
they always carry dirt cheap stuff with a warranty from them, and sometimes a manufacturers warranty for some brands.

Re: Speaker size question?

Your going for an all Kenwood esemble Very nice.

Does Kenwood make a component? If so, go for that. The reason being is youll end up appreciating it more. I currently have amped Alpine Type-R coaxils in the door, and Im now upgrading to components because I got tired of the vocals coming from the floor.....
but if your looking for tweets you will take care of that problem
its just that it may be easier to just order a component set instead of a coaxil + tweet set.

and im also assuming you have OEM sail panels?

ummm you dont NEED the shock install. But if you want it at $90 and hour id say about $240 (shop time, etc). Thats just labor. Its not a hard job, but ive read its kind of a guessing game on where to drill the holes in the trunk lid. If you have a good and cheap shop in your area, with supplies itd run you $200-$300. with that said, I dont have any good cheap quality shops around me.

yea that bar is called the torsion bar. you can relocate it to the lower trunk, although idk about that difficulty. Its meant for chassis flex control etc. bust quite a few 6x9s will fit in there anyway. you just have to make it fit. Lol

Actually I think he's talking about the 2 bars under the rear deck, they help keep the trunk lid open. The magnet on most aftermarket speakers will hit them. Save yourself some $$$ heres the trunk shock diy that will help solve your problem. If you do diy be careful taking the bars off they have a bit of tension on them. Theres a special tool you can buy from Honda to take them off, I just used a the nail pulling end on a hammer to get them off you'll figure out what I mean. Good luck

Re: Speaker size question?

I have a coupe with JL VR's in the rear deck and those are some of the largest 6X9s ive seen. Im pretty damn sure the torison bar will not make contact with the speaker. I cut the plastic ring on the rear deck around the speakers so my speakers would fit in deeper. And my torison bar does in fact make contact with the bottom of my speaker and speaker screws. However, the trunk still closes nicely and is not causing any damage to the speakers or any other equipment. So i think you should be fine. I wouldn't try to solve problems that i'm not sure even exist yet.

Re: Speaker size question?

Oh, i would be concerned using gas shocks because eventually they will lose their power and fail. The most annoying part is they will lose there power slowly so it will become increasingly annoying.

Re: Speaker size question?

gas shocks replace the trunk arms. They are quite off to the side and really long, Youd be pushing some deepass speakers if your hitting them. Youd hit the torsion bar long before you hit hte trunk arms.
